Turntable

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Me and my girlfriend just bought an old house and when we moved there she accidently :?: dropped my turntable :evil: so now I need to buy a new one... thinking of buying an older used quality turntable...

So do you guys have any recommendations.. Thoréns, Dual, Rega, NAD...

Techniks 1200MK2 or 1210MK2.
The classic dj turntable, no flimsy parts, tough like a tractor, almost indestructible. Will follow you all your life. Sells for around 300 euro secondhand. They are great !

Aye, Technics are the real stuff!

And when you're on a budget, just grab something cheap in e.g. a charity shop. Cheaper than buying new needles :D

I wouln't touch Technics TBH.
Alright for DJs, but not really domestic use.
Pro-Ject make very good & reasonably priced turntables that are good enough to give the high end products a run for their money.

Aye, Pro-Ject are good, you'll need to spend about a grand to get a worthwhile improvement on a cheap & cheerful one.

Rega are well thought of, but I say avoid them - the belt is circular in cross-section and can lead to some seriously noticeable speed instability.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Geek i am indeed, and dj also. But I really like the no-nonsense feel of the mk2. They are like tractors indeed, feel like "machines" vs other turntable that could easily feel like toys (not Thorens though, but some do). Pluslook how they fit well with the MR label :

My first turntable was a Thorens (but a really old one TD150?) and it was great.
Next one was a Rega Planar 3 which I still use today.

It also matches well with my Rega amp ;D

If you do buy an older turntable (e.g. Thorens) stick a decent cartridge/stylus on it and it will do you proud.

RE. Technics t/tables.
They are built very well & are like tractors. For industrial style punishment, you will be safe in the knowledge that you can pretty well abuse them & not cause any damage.
But if you're just looking for a home application at a resonable price, then you can pick up a Pro-Ject debut III phono SB for a couple of hundred quid (new).
There is a debut III without a phono stage for around 130 quid though
If you opt for the pro-ject, make sure it has a phono stage, or you won't hear anything unless you have a "phono" input on your pre-amp/amp.
Then again, if it's "wife-proof" you're after, get an old Thorens.

Take a look at Goldring GR1 & GR2 aswell.

That does look might well like the worst one I've ever had. Twas a belt-drive JB a mate let me use and the speed kept going up and down, never again :urff:

Nowadays I use a dead ugly gold-finish Marantz (:lol:), but a new one is in order as the needle is nearly worn out!

I never had problemes with it.
before I had 2 sunny's :?: (I believe that was the name)
the first one was a suitcase radio, it looked nice but only played 7"
the second was a stereo but he failed after a few spins. :urff:
