krautrock article in the guardian

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

one snippet i chuckled at:
Can and Neu! remain the best place to start, and from there, you may want to progress to Faust, Ash Ra Tempel and Amon Düül II. After that, you'll feel like a confirmed psychonaut, but tread carefully - one wrong turn and you'll end up spending money on, say, Grobschnitt, who were no fun at all.
:o

I hurt my ears with Amon Düül II after reading that article. (Though there was a substantially great Saxophone solo in one of the songs..)
I still wonder frequqently how rock music survived that phase.

Which album did you give a go? Aye they produced plenty of crap, but also have magnificent stuff in their back catalogue (especially Phallus Dei and Yeti)

I see what you did there James

Saw that, too. As I heard it today. And I couldn't believe what I heard was sold as music.. :|
I saw a recording of Phallus Dei on youtube. Besides the idea for that title alone is ace, I thought that music was exactly an example of how not to do it.
As posted elsewhere, that was the accoustic equivalent of the experiment with a lot of monkeys with typewriters.
..where the result is NOT a copy of Romeo&Juliet, that is.

Well, Amon Düül II were a bunch of hippies and people joined in and left between performances, albums, … so nothing ever is the same. Adds to the excitement as far as I'm concerned but that's obviously just personal.

Try this one and tell me what you think again, think you'll have to admit there is something very special going on there even if the vocals are a bit miss and hit at times.

*grunt, pant, grunt, arf!* Yep, I'm sorry too.
I found the video I saw today:
With Uschi Obermaier, thus NOT WORKSAFE!
I thought the Sax-bit at the end simply is great.
