Why did humans invent writing?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

"These studies tell us that elaborate short-term memory skills may have had a much more salient function in early humans than is present in modern humans, perhaps due to our increasing reliance on internet forums."

Think it's only logical they learn basic things that quick, after all for them it's still a matter of survival, whereas we're being kept safe by our parents in houses etc.

It didn't say anything about long term memory though, did it? I'd be really surprised if the combined forces of long and short term (photographic) memory of a chimpanzee were stronger than man's version of the same, it'd probably move more towards a sort of 'instinct' with them. Quite possibly that's our main strength, being able to combine those two effectively.
Styles are a lie.

Seems strange to suggest but perhaps these chimpanzee are showing better memories as they are showing evolutionary development?
