I'm escaping the Scottish New Year in Amsterdam this week If anyone fancies meeting up for a drink or whatever before Friday, feel free to PM me. I've just discovered the delights of Olliebollen, so will probably be as fat as a pig by the time I get home

Welcome in the Low Lands! I'm in Eindhoven, a bit to the south so I'm afraid I won't be able to reach you just like that.

Windmills and wooden shoes indeed! I'd have thought you above those kinds of generalisations Andrew (even though they're both completely true, in my experience
).
Well, may I be the first to wish you...
Nieuwjaar gezoeten,
het varken heeft vier voeten,
vier voeten en een staart,
is dat dan geen centje waard?

Althogh Aaron doesn't seem to have heard that before. Maybe it's a Flemish thing..

Vindegij mijn gaat niet te dik in deze rok? is...
... as is "Mijn ogen staan niet op mijn gaat hoor"...
The song about the "kerstbal" is just plain silly...
Basically Andrew, Dutchies are just a foul-mouthed bunch of reprobates who cannot control their use of profanities. That's why the Glaswegians have such an affinity with them

I think you may be right. I learned a new expression today - from Aaron's mother of all people!
"Voor het zingen de kerk uit gaan..."
It came about after a bit of a misunderstanding at the dinner table and he just sat there with a face like a beetroot

First of all: I live in the Netherlands and it is the best country in the world! Have a good time, Andrew!
Second: For all the non-Dutch-speaking people: The expression had to with a birth control thingy actually. It means that a guy must "leave" the woman before he has an orgasm (so the woman won't get pregnant
)
