Ok so since there's so much speculation about what Sisters song it's going to be I have to let the cat out of the bag, every song on that record is great but Lucretia has always been my favorite, Dominion being a close second. Anyone that knows me knows that I have always loved old school goth, "nu goth" is kind of boring. Matt Wicklund did a great job of making Lucretia METAL

Nevermore are actually really good, and pretty unique as far as metal goes. They have absolutely nothing in common with the HIM/Paradise Lost/Tiamat/etc. goff-pop-metal nonsense. They're probably the heaviest band going with a clean (singing, not growling/screaming) vocalist. Their guitar player is fantastic, as is their drummer. I've seen 'em live back in my more metal days. They did a Bauhaus cover years ago; I forget what song.

Mr. Dane is a good singer, but an aquired taste. He has a penchant for really odd melody lines and dissonance.

Paradise Lost and Tiamat were two of the best doom-bands around and they grew up. Sort of. PL for worse, Tiamat for the better.

Really? Judas Christ is terrible, can't imagine a greater disappointment after the decent Skeletron and utterly sublime Deeper Kind Of Slumber. Or are you referring to their earlier stuff Iz, in which case I couldn't possibly comment having heard not a note. Got me in the mood now though, Slumber is the first cd on when I get home

Then The Sleeping Beauty EP emerged and all was good

Have to agree that A Deeper Kinda Slumber is their best of the 'new era', but the others are as sublime as they are simple.

I was gonna say- are you really trying to suggest that Judas Christ is a good record? I like Wildhoney/DKOS/Skeletron as far as Tiamat is concerned. Huge Sisters influence on Skeletron, though I have to admit, Brighter Than The Sun is probably the best Sisters knockoff I've heard.

Older Paradise Lost is alright, though not my favorite. I prefer My Dying Bride and Anathema if we're talking British doom. I'm not a fan after One Second, which I have to admit I enjoyed.

And I like Katatonia quite a bit.

I suppose if I have to make a broad generalization like that I'll pick on Within Temptation or someone like that who doesn't have a quality back catalog to prop themselves up on.

there was a leicester band called Grumble Grinder which featured a half-decent rythm section and two of the ugliest others in the whole cosmos.

a 12" of their's had the unlistenable and unforgiveable rendering of lucretia which they had murdered with extreme prejudice and little redeemable brevity.

i got my hands on a box-ful of said 12 " and had snapped a good 3/4 in half before they noticed.
