a 'friend' sent me this: (i shall never speak to them again!)

http://metaholicmusic.blogspot.com/2008 ... -dane.html
Nevermore vocalist Warrel Dane has teamed up with ex-Soilwork guitarist Peter Wichers, Matt Wickland, formally of Himsa, Nevermore bassist Jim Sheppard and Soilwork drummer Dirk Verbeuren to create what is Warrel Dane's debut solo album.
who the hell are these people?
The album, which is titled Praises to The War Machine, is to be released through Century Media Records in Europe on April 29, and in North America (and presumably the rest of the world) on May 13.

It is compiled of 12 tracks, including a cover of a song by The Sisters of Mercy, and a Paul Simon cover aswell as one song featuring the one and only Jeff Loomis of Nevermore and another featuring James Murphy, who is known for his work with Death, Obituary and Testament, amongst others.

Here's the track listing:
01. When We Pray
02. Messenger (featuring Jeff Loomis)
03. Obey
04. Lucretia My Reflection (The Sisters of Mercy cover)
05. Let You Down
06. August
07. Your Chosen Misery
08. The Day The Rats Went to War (featuring James Murphy)
09. Brother
10. Patterns (Paul Simion cover)
11. This Old Man
12. Equilibrium
and from his blog:

Ok so since there's so much speculation about what Sisters song it's going to be I have to let the cat out of the bag, every song on that record is great but Lucretia has always been my favorite, Dominion being a close second. Anyone that knows me knows that I have always loved old school goth, "nu goth" is kind of boring. Matt Wicklund did a great job of making Lucretia METAL

they also sent me an mp3 of the track...

oh my :urff:

i think there's probably a snippet of it somewhere out there - maybe his myspace page or something

www.myspace.com/warreldane

it plods along in a moderately cringe-worthy fashion until the chorus, at which point you think they've completely forgot what tune they were supposed to be playing :o

ghastly :(

Praise the lord it is NOT on the MySpace then :|

And why, if he gets bored by Nu Goth that much, is he playing exactly that with his band :?:

I'm listening to it now and to be honest I have heard worse songs than this. he didn't just cover it you can clearly hear that he tried something new with it.
it stands miles from the original but it is a nice interpretation :)

Some people clearly shouldn't do "nice interpretations"

This is Quiff Boy's 'friend'

In defense of Warrel Dane

Warrel is a great vocalist whose work with previous bands Serpent's Knight and Sanctuary along with his current band Nevermore has been, IMHO, outstanding.

His vocals are ideally suited to a song like this. He has a huge vocal range (unlike most metal vocalists) and has character as well.

Warrel is from a completely different musical background than the Sisters and the cover is not likely to appeal to most Sisters fans. But it may increase the average metal fan's awareness of the Sisters. Some may even buy some albums.

The Sisters have done a few covers themselves in the past and they were probably 'Sisterised". Warrel Dane has just 'Metalized' what is obviously one of his favourite songs.

P.S. I am a forum newbie (first ever forum)

Let's throw some fire on the Warrel Dane debate!

Warrel is an outstanding vocalist and like it or not guys, before he saw the light of metal, he was a hard core goth. Warrel's solo album sees him return to his goth influences - surely there's room for a little goth/metal cross over isn't there? For you disbelievers out there check out Warrel's myspace page - note the influences Bauhaus, Pete Murphy, The Cure .... still not convinced? Check out his friends, Bauhaus and Pete Murphy.

I rest my case.

ps I'm new to this forum lark aswell

Welcome here! Take a seat and join the madness....
GrimAxe wrote:But it may increase the average metal fan's awareness of the Sisters. Some may even buy some albums.
Sure! As much as all In Extremo fans who claim that "This Corrosion" is the
best ever In Extremo song, are aware of the fact that it's actually a Sisters song... :urff:
I shouldn't be so harsh on the youth of today, I know... :innocent:

I'll be polite first....

Welcome GrimAxe & eve romner to HL...

Nice one having two of you coming up on the defense of....
I'm of honest opion that if you cover a TSOM song nowadays you had better be fuckinggood as a band or the fans of TSOM will boo you away..

Metal? Nah, TSOM ain't a metal band at all IMHO but then again we do have many metal fans within these walls as we know the influences and likes are also dealt in that world...

Let us hear your cover then, don't be shy...

The fact that your friends are Peter Murphy, Bauhaus, The Cure...not a big thing in the music business...most of us here have them as friends too in our myspace profiles...

You have to prove to be cool here in HL and if the boss is disappointed, well then you'll have to prove him wrong and I usually go with his feeling as he does know what he's saying...

Warrel has not tried to hide the fact that the song is a Sisters cover - he has in fact made quite a big deal out of it. So it would be difficult for any of his fans to miss the fact that it is a Sisters cover.

In addition, the song is completely different to anything else on the album and sticks out like a sore thumb.

Did either of us say TSOM were metal.
MadameButterfly wrote:Let us hear your cover then, don't be shy...
Wait until 28th April when it is officially released - though promos are on the newsgroups and on Limewire.
MadameButterfly wrote:The fact that your friends are Peter Murphy, Bauhaus, The Cure...not a big thing in the music business...most of us here have them as friends too in our myspace profiles...
eve did not state that the above were her friends, they are Warrel's friends.

Why do I have to be cool? I am not 'the Fonz'.

When a few of you have listened to the song in a objective fashion, you may then provide an informed opinion. Listen to it more than once. It gets better...and better...and better.
