Not sure how much of an ecological impact this'll ultimately have, but I bet it'll look neat from space! ;D

More info's available here. Anyone else planning to participate?

Michigan Ave. (a.k.a. the "Magnificent Mile") should look pretty neat/weird, and I think the Sears Tower's implementing some kind of educational lightshow thingie using only LEDs. Probably going to trek down there tonight to take a peek. :D

:notworthy: It's a marvellous idea started in Australia. The only effect it would have though is if every country worldwide would do it and then once a week and in total darkness....not even the burning of fires on beaches etc. nor the burning of anything to give light....yet the skies to give us light. If we all really want to help in what in my book is still not doable...the sad truth. But effort is still well appreciated.

I like the idea, but isn't there something like this in summertime too? I'll see whether I'll remember to switch off my lights

They'd built it up bigtime over here in Brisbane, but it was seriously anticlimatic from where I was standing (and I had a wonderful view of the whole city from the top of a hill a couple of miles out of town). The majority of the city stayed lit up, killing the effect.

Hi Maisey. Bit of a shame then really although on top of a hill still does have something doesn't it?

Nice of you to drop on in! Having fun?

Same here. You get the biggest energy saving if you're using a CRT monitor.

The problem is that most of the population just don't understand the two main problems that are about to hit us squarely in the face: Peak oil (which will hit first and we're in the early stages of) and AGW/climate change.

It's also coupled with the fact that, thanks to living in a democracy, no government is actually willing or able to enact the correct mitigation legislation. (But that's another rant I'd probably best save for later).

I'm late in on this as usual, but thanks for letting us know anyway Sinnie! This is a great idea, and my Biodynamic Badgery Chums will approve ... :notworthy: :innocent: Have lots of Earth Hours here already ... I think they are called 'Power Cuts' ... (they usually go on for longer too!)
