What New Goth Bands Are You Listening To?

Different from the other thread, in that this is all about bands that look like Goths, sound like Goths, smell like Goths, but will swear on their mothers lives that they are in no way a Goth :)

I was at the Neph gig last night, and was chatting to Maisey, RobZombie & Streamline. The conversation was largely centred around Goth from the late 80’s & early 90’s.

I have to say this is the period I was at my most musically (listening rather than producing) active, and being a Goth of sorts I was interested in and listened to many new Goth bands. The problem I felt with many of the then ‘new breed’ of Goth band, was that they missed the point of the original movement (I’m not saying there was any particular point, but if their was one, these guys missed it)

I’m talking in particular of bands like Inkubus Sukkubus, Die Laughing, Nosferatu etc

Many of them seemed to lack any originality, followed a standard formula and for me the vampire and occult stuff was all a little silly. I like my music based in the real world, sex, drugs and the seedier side of rock & roll, hence my passion for the Sisters. They’re a cut above the rest.

Now I’ll get on with Maisey’s question, which was, ‘so what bands are you into?’

The list would be way too long to put on here, so I thought I’d stick a list up of some the new Goth(y) bands I’ve been listening too recently, they are in no particular order.

I’ve included the myspace links

Cheers

I have to admit that NFD are really great (for a Neph ripoff). The Eden House is brilliant though ..

One hears Tony Petit's involvement in Eden House right away. Very nice indeed.
My suggestions:
Morbid Pottery
Very well made old schoolish goth rock.
The same goes for
The House of Usher.
Did anyone mention
The Faces of Sarah yet? Partially brilliant!
Nicely strange and slightly crazy is how to describe The Last Days of Jesus. A fun to listen to.
I didn't really dive into the works of Mono Inc. yet, but liked what I heard so far.
Funhouse fascinated me at first, but grew dull on me pretty soon. I may be picky..
Ankst from Natal, South Africa are interesting as well. Not quite there yet, but I find interesting ideas in their music. Someone should take them by the hand an perfectionise their production and songwriting.
Precinct from Herrn Administrators planet sound pretty promissing as well. While I prefered the rawer sounding earlier versions of their songs.
And yes: The Daughters of Bristol sound pretty well.

Generally I find that goth bands tend to go dull pretty often. It's the special skill of some bands like the Nephs or NFD to keep a varying sound and musical appearance interesting. There's a reason they are favourites of so many.
At the latest goff night at the local disco some more classical goth style songs were played and then Marian. Boy, one could almost touch the edge over the other bands this song has. I can't really say what it is, but there's a wide gap between the rather whiny appearance of many goth songs and the clean and mobilizing feeling ol'Mary gives me. Stylewise almost a fit, it still is an odd man out in the genre.

Edit: I take it for granted that all of you are aware of Heartland's member Ahrayéph?
Slava's Forced Oscilations are on their way as well. Just listen to the songs and compare them to what they sounded like a year ago. That's a world between then and now, and who knows where they will go in the future?
:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: for the progress you've made, boys!
Edit 2: Of course, there's that project from Germany's Rhineland region to mention that is so far ahead of its time that probably no incarnation of any present will ever catch up with it..
Edit 3: Erm, disreguard.

@Eotunun:Legionwill be supporting the Faces Of Sarah in August, why not come on down

As for bands. I'll be brief. The top 3 modern gothic rock bands the I rate very very highly are:

Pretentious, Moi?. This is something special, and Tim is generally happy to send over a demo CD. If Rosetta were the best thing in goth since the Sisters, then this is the best thing since Rosetta. SERIOUSLY good.

Univited Guest are a personal favourate of mine. Taking more from Bauhaus and Bowie than the Sisters they still make a noise that makes me proud to be a goth.

Rome Burns are an underated band indeed. Something about them always tickled me pink. I suppose I could never risist that blend of drum machine doom and gloom mixed with light hearted pop sence. None of my favourate tracks are up on the myspace though...

I completely agree with Bannanacamel with regards to NFD and She Wants Revenge... I have yet to explore the new Miserylab CD, although no doubt it'll be enjoyable.

While the vampyre and coffin thing Nosferatu did seriously increase the naffness of the entire genre I disagree with Daves views on The Inky's and Die Laughing. The first of which I've never been massively passionate about but have always thought they had a decent take on the traditional sound and I still stand by Die Laughing as one of the best bands of the second generation of goth rock in the early 90's.

Several people mentioned Adoration to me this weekend, so I'm off to check 'em out!

think that most of the "new" goff-bands sounds like sh*te... one of few I'm listening to is Order of Isaz, the singer is also in the band Malaise, pretty good...

Most goth bands these days are to "my goth" what Whitesnake were to Led Zep 20 years ago.

Move on kiddies, there's plenty of soulful singers and songwriters out of there, they just wears different panties.
