Give us yer Phono stories!

Greetings, goths.

I need your help. Well, I need help from the old farts amongst you anyways.

Back in the day ('88 to '98-ish) I was quite the phono regular. Once it started changing hands I don't think it ever made it back to it's late-80s heyday, but it was a bloody good place to goth about anyway.

Now I'm older and a bit less stupid (and more bald) than I used to be and I've been settled in New York for a while. I'm making inroads into the film business, and the late-80s Phono culture is the scenario of a script I'm currently working on. 80s Goth culture is a subject long neglected in the film world and I think it'd make a great story.

So why the f**k am I telling you?

I want your Phono stories. Everybody who was there has a good one. I've already got loads, but I want more. I've got a lot of ideas for my script, but it needs help.

What's in it for you though? To be honest - not a lot, other than the chance to help bring Phono culture to the millions who couldn't even point to Leeds on a map. Everyone who contributes will get an honorable mention in the credits though.

So come on - tell me what happened that time you'd been drinking Red Witches all day and pebble-dashed to toilets. My email address is in my profile if you don't want to discuss your embarrasing drunken antics here.

Cheers.

If you want to get together for a few bevvies to talk about the Phono in the early 90s, let me know - any bar south of 59th Street works for me.

That is Emo Emu. Humor is an alien concept to him. He knows only despair.

I'm in Dumbo in Brooklyn most of the time. I try to stay out of the city, but I could make an exception :D

I went once for a Heartland do, and recall very little...

You might want to try sarah_orange on the board - she owns and operates thesubculture next door, formerly the bassment.

And welcome!

Yeah, I went in that place last summer while I was visiting. Was a bit dead, but it was amusing to see some of the old Phono crowd, including Deano flogging his dodgy bootleg DVDs at the bar!

It's where goth was invented, ya young pup ;)

Or so many would claim. Some also claim the pillar in the middle of the dancefloor was the pivotal hub of the universe, but physicists disagree....

That's a bit of a hip neighbourhood for an old Phonographist, isn't it? I should have thought Alphabet City would be more up your street.

I just work here. My home neighborhood is Park Slope, which is about as un-phono as you can get and still be in the same universe. Sad, I know, but it happens to the best of us :?

We can compromise and meet in Pyramid (6&A) on a Thursday night for The Metro - free door before 9pm...

I have a story!

Went with a couple of mates from work years back, copped off with a stunning bird who turned out to be a lesbian who just wanted a bit of fun (yes, stunning lesbian's do exist!), then got so incredibly sh*t faced as a result of my rejection at being a male that I ended up waking up in the middle of the road about 2 miles from my house, which is nowhere near The Phono with no idea how I got there. As I woke up a police car pulled up beside me & unsuprisingley asked me what I was doing. I can't remember what I said but they gave me a lift home which was nice.

I spent the next day being sick.

Never went there, but I did recently go to the Heartland Brewery, across the road from the Radio City Music Hall. (yes it was a Cure trip, but it was the best show on the tour & they ended with Forever, so I feel it was justified)

@ Purple Light ~ Hello there! Hee I liked your story! Of course lesbian women can be stunning! Even a couple of lesbian women can turn heads...

but the same goes for guy boys or men...the most gorgeous to see are mostly gay but the couples of gay men are also sometimes mouth-dropping!

Sorry for derailment of the Phono stories thread but still haven't been so can't really post otherwise... :?
