German - B (8 marks off an A)
General Studies - B
Mathematics - B (5 marks off an A)
Physics - A (by 2 marks!)

It's confirmed. I'm going to Glasgow. Wish me luck blending in seamlessly into the whisky-swigging, anti-English socialist masses. ;D

As the results were announced, the government explained how it was making A-levels more challenging.

Following successful pilots, tougher A-levels will be available to all from this September.

One change involves doing an "extended project", worth the equivalent of half an A-level. More than 1,400 students have been involved in a pilot with exam boards.

And students starting A-level courses in September will become the first to be eligible for the new A* grade when they are awarded to those attaining more than 90% in 2010. The first pilot versions have been awarded this summer.

The changes followed criticism that the rise in the number of A grades at A-level meant universities could no longer spot the brightest students.
well done though to all you bright young things :notworthy: :notworthy: :D

Thanks all. :notworthy:

I'm in two minds about the A*.. it does mean that to some people, an A will no longer be enough, and judging by today, some people would have killed for an A. Even a B. :|

That said, in our Physics exams, we were given formula sheets. There were, however, a number of equations which we had to memorise. This September's Y12 will get a different formula sheet with every equation they will need on it. My class were one of the "pilot" guinea pigs, using that formula sheet to help answer some sample exam questions for next year. All I can say is that those students next year will NEED that sheet, those questions were far from easy. :|

Annoyingly that isn't quite true. I thought it was - after all, once you're into Uni what matters is your degree, right? Turns out if you want a job in the civil service doing anything more than counting paperclips your A-levels come into play. God alone knows why - there's precious little I could tell you about 19th Century european history today, nor the main plot motifs in Der Schimmelreiter (which is crushingly boring and probably the main reason I scraped an E in German A level (but that were back in the day when it were 'ard  ) ).
But you should be sorted, Dark (assuming you don't mind everyone accusing you of being a swot for your grades  )

Congratulations - what are you going to be reading in Glesgae?
