I was looking around for the Platinum album on some sites and found this -

"This Drowning Man is a new band based around singer Roland Klein who is known in Germany for his collaboration with Sisters of Mercy icon Andrew Eldritch"

Also the following was the listing for cat. No. -

CD:001MRC
RELEASED: 2008
LABEL: Merciful

does anyone know whether the label is active or have any details...this could be the start of interesting things (don't we wish?)

hm. I bet the word 'famous' has always been multi-interpretable. Never heard of him (ok, i'm from The Netherlands).

weird. Especially the MR note

hmm, their myspace drops a different label Label:Cha(LCNR.13271)
http://www.myspace.com/THEILLUSIONFAILED

They're from Hamburg. And at a first listen it sounds like Marrillion on new wave. The 'collaboration' has been that Eldritch once gave him some change for the the parking lot at the Reeperbahn?

If he collaborated with Eldritch circa SSV, it was probably fairly hush-hush, which would explain why we haven't heard of him.

Wouldn't explain why he's famous, though. Think he does bad techno with no drums as well?

as far as i know the techno collaborators were leeds-based, and their role was fairly low key. i've heard that it was pretty much an individual 'project' (read: von noodling around with some old synths) and that any other personnel were more advisory than participatory.

caveat lector: thats all 3rd hand btw, so i'm not purporting that to be the definitive truth :)

german huh? its not a name i've heard bandied about before...
