What a real person, what a being. When i get my head conclusivelly out of a dark place i'll be very close to that.

He's an old misanthropic bum with an alcohol habit.

I can see hero written all over him indeed! ;D

 ..and he sure knows how to drive that car..in order to escape from the blue blue meanies. ;D

....but in all seriousness, I'm with you on this one. Not a hero as such but I'm a great fan of his writing. An inspiration for me personally - he was very honest at the cost of coming across as a pig (and he certainly was one a lot of the time). Also check out (his hero) John Fante.

For Bukowski virgins I'd recommend starting with "Factotum" and "Post Office". Followed shortly after by "Ham on Rye" and "Women".

All are best read in one sitting each, from 11pm to 4am.

Oh, and just because you like his writing (which is excellent), doesn't mean you should idolise him as a "hero".
