Portland Roseland Theater - 22 Nov

I'm hoping to go to this one, it'll be my first ever gig in America so I'm quite looking forward to it & it'll be even more special because it's The Sisters.

I've had a look on the venues' Myspace page, there's some pics of the hall on there & it reminds me of Rock City in Nottingham with the balcony.

I'm going to try & film this gig so if anyone that has been to this venue before can tell me if they allow cameras (and or cam corders) in that would help.
I'll weed any footage I get on here.

I have contacted the venue through Myspace asking them about filming it so hopefully they'll reply with a positive response.

Where will the Pre-Gig drinks be ?

Keep Smiling or whatever it is us Goths should be doing??

Erm, I wouldn't worry about what the venue says, but I would worry about a mike-stand in the face from Von if I were you. No Joke. Leave your camera at home.

Thanks for that Rob,
I'll bear it in mind. I wouldn't want to upset Von :von: or anyone for that matter.

Good good. That little red light tends to infuriate the man. And everyone else for that matter. The amount of phone/camcorder screens in front of me at the Pistols the other week made me go home early. Vile.

Very odd (for anyone who's met me) that I should be included under the banner of us "G***s". Most perturbing. As it is, I lived in Notts for about ten years, so I must have seen you about at some point?

I used to go to Rock City every Saturday night for the Alternative / Goth nights from late '86 to late '91.
My pubs were The Dragon, Tap & Tumbler and sometimes The Sal.

if it helps you to identify me I always wore black & had long black crimped hair, oh, and I wore a leather jacket as well

Now do you remember me :?:

No seriously, check out my pics on here in the Photo Gallery
http://www.myheartland.co.uk/gallery/search.php

Maybe you'll recognize me from them.

I've been to about 30 shows at this place over the last 20 years. The sound should be spot on. It's the usual place where Motorhead and other rock bands play when in PDX. Security is always a bitch. They will pat you down and sometimes refuse to let you in wearing bullet belts/spikes etc. They used to have a no camera policy. I'm not sure if they still do. The bar is upstairs in the balcony, and is rediculously small. Since it's an all age show, they will restrict drinking to the balcony/bar. It will be near impossible to get more than a few beers before the nights over. There are no ins/outs so your stuck inside. There is a bar downstairs before you go up to the mainfloor. As far as pre-show drinking spots, there is MARY'S CLUB a block up the street. It's Oregon's first strip bar. There is another strip bar a block down called CABARET. A block down from that is DANTES where OGRE from SKINNY PUPPY is doing a show after the SISTERS end. There are about another 20 bars within a 2 minute walking distance if looking for something more relaxing than rock clubs and strip clubs however.

Thanks A. Void,
I've got permission to film this gig now so I wont have to worry about security.

This venue reminds me of Rock City Nottingham with the balcony so I'm going to try & film it from the balcony here as well because from past experiences of filming in Rock City I've always got excellent sound & picture quality so hopefully I'll get the same results at this venue.

I'm counting down the days now that the tour is kicking off tonight & I'm looking forward to reading all of the comments & reviews from all of the shows in the threads on here & hopefully getting any weeds that come from any of the gigs :D :D

Thanks DrG,
I'm sorry that you had problems with recording the Buffalo gig but I'll still join the Queue if you're going to weed it on here :notworthy: :notworthy:
Glad that you enjoyed the night as well.

We've haven't been to Portland yet but have been to parts of South Oregon just past the Ca / Or State Line & have loved that so I'm looking forward to seeing Portland as well.

Roseland has a balcony that wraps around the whole venue so if you get in early enough you can score a seat directly over the stage. Just remember the smoke rises. If you have permission to film, maybe you can get infront of the stage barricade.

:von: may seriously object to obvious filming... just a warning.

I recommend staying subversive... and go with the first thing A.void said...

I am sure many Heartlanders would agree. 8)

Go for it originalgoth... I have faith in you! ;D

Thanks Guys,
I'll try filming from the middle of the balcony directly opposite the stage I think as that'll give the best view & also should work best for the sound as well shouldn't it?

Thanks for the vote of confidence DrG.

Can't wait for it now
:D :D :D

Will be having pre-show beers at CAPT. ANKENY'S WELL which is on 50 SW 3RD. Three blocks east and one block south of the venue. Should be out front in the sidewalk seating area. Forcast is for rain but it's covered. I'll be the dodgy backcombed goth who looks something like...

Got this feeling it's going to be a great show or a s**t show. Seems so far on this tour that is the way it's going, haven't seen one thread yet where it was just okay. It's either the greatest in the world or the worst in the world.

Here's hoping for the greatest in the world.

.........I will be the middle aged guy screaming at the the top of my lungs 'you could be the one' inbetween songs.

If just one bootleg comes off this tour with fans screaming this out I would be happy.

Used to go to Rock City from the mid 80's until I moved Stateside in 97.The Saturday nights were always great and we used to bring several car loads from Boston,my original home.
Great place for a gig even with the sticky floors!!!

BAD NEWS All,
I'm not going to be able to get to this gig tonight or Seattle tomorrow night so I'm sorry that we wont have any footage from either of them, I'm hoping to work something out with regards the Anaheim gig though as I've also got permission to film that one.

Enjoy the gig tonight & I'll be thinking about it all evening
I'll look forward to reading about it tomorrow though & hopefully someone will record it for us & share it at some stage soon :D
