Have any more details come forward regarding the Sisters of Murphy gig on Saturday at the veritable s**t hole that is the Fairfield Halls? Walking distance for me, so am planning to go. Dropped in there last night and the lady on the desk didn't have the first clue about any of the Witchfest.

Times and type of ticket to buy would be good from anyone in the know!!

Cheers.

You can get an all day ticket which includes the festival itself (presumably hocus pocus stalls) and the gigs for £20, or just the gigs for £10.

I was going to go but it's a right old trek from Uxbridge so I may have to leave it :(

Croydon.....when I was a lad the Underground was a mainstay of the gig circuit. Whatever happened to that place?

You ain't kidding about the distance. If it influences you in any way, the Fairfield Halls is really near East Croydon station (less than 5 min walk) and the trains back and forth to London are frequent (takes less than 20 mins) - there's a service that goes directly through West London, but not sure how late it runs.

Fairfield is a dismal venue (don't think its been decorated/touched since the 60s), they can be funny about drinks being taken into the main halls and the like. That said the security is of the age whereby they no doubt receive disturbing phone calls from Russell Brand on a regular basis, so can't imagine them putting up too much resistance if you enjoy a pint whilst at a gig.

Anyways, thanks for giving us a straightforward answer ... more than the people putting on the show can it seems!!

If it was where I think it was, it was directly opposite Fairfield. Long gone by the time I was of gigging age unfortunately. Pretty sure Ghost Dance played a few shows there as did the Neph and AAE. It got turned into a truly horrible nightclub (The Blue Orchid) which now stands empty. I've also been told it was in the basement of another now empty nightclub, who's doorway is now used for hoodies to grope each other before chucking up their alcopops. Oh the horrors...

Last live show of any note in Croydon was The Fall doing a 4 night stand at The Cartoon (also now gone) 2 or 3 years back.

12 - 15 March 2006. Top 4 nights and a nice little boozer as well.

And the venue didn't mind me videoing either... :D (once Alan Wise put them right :notworthy: )
