Heartland

Every once and a while in going through my record collection
I come across an album I haven’t played in ages
but on giving it a spin immediately remember how great it is.
The most recent of which is Hazel O’Connor – Breaking Glass.
It crackles with rage against Thatcher’s Britain and the racism, despair
and break up of the family unit that was so inherent in the country at that time.
Yeah, it’s an 80’s record, right down to the synths and the sax,
but it’s the fact that it’s a product of its time that makes it so great.
Like London Calling or Sandinista by The Clash, the record drips with
politics, which might be enough to turn some of you off.
To me, however, music should do more than entertain,
which doesn’t mean entertaining music is wrong.

Anyway, that’s my lost classic, what about yours?

BTW, the film is also damn fine.

breaking glass is a damn good album
probably the best sax solo in the history of man (will you) black man still makes my hackles rise.

anything by the ramones (ive got "ramones mania", only they could get 30 tracks on 1 cd!!!)

And "It's Alive" is one of my favourite live albums.

Sadly, Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny weren't too tougth to die after all.

Yes! I had a total Siouxsie day one day last week and really got back into that album again. Love it

Same thing happened to me a while back with
Happy Mondays - Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches

Definately my 'lost classic'.

Made me think of that trip to the Ardennes with some friends on a bloody hot day in August, when we suddenly decided to close all car windows and put the heating at max level for about 2 hours. And the Happy Mondays were pumpin' their 'Hoiliday'!

Somehow I never play that album anymore - but then once in a while it just 'pops up'.

If i get my arse in gear i shall put my studio gubbins together and sample loads of it..... or just sit back and give it a damn good listening to... indeed

All sound fresh and exciting 20 + years on.

There's nothing out there now that comes even close.

yep. 3 absolute classics

This album was made long before that horrible "Killing me softly with his saw" song .It´s worth getting hold of just for the tracks "Compare to what" and "Trying times"
