Has anyone been on a Goth Cruise?

I just watched that new documentary Goth Cruise on the IFC channel and then did some internet research on the topic. http://hubpages.com/hub/GothCruiseTheMovieReview

Has anyone on this board actually been on one of the goth cruises? It looks like fun, but would like to hear from someone who's actually been before I lay out my cash..

Oh dear god, LAME!

If you want to meet other goths so you can make friends or procreate with those of similar tastes, there are plenty of clubs, meetups, gigs, festivals etc etc

The idea of banding together for a cruise strikes me as HERDING. It's the same fear of being amoung the ever so slightly different that "we" accuse most normal people of.

Many of us want to relax while on vacation.. you can only go to clubs so many times..

Just to clarfiy, I'm not making an attack on you personally sistersfanima. I just think that organising a gothic cruise, as a sort of sub section of an otherwise normally populated boat seems a tad off, for reasons above.

Not entirely true...but none, I suspect, who would find the idea of a cruise such as that of which you speak particularly appealing.... :|

FFS I've even avoided the Whitby weekends because it's too . . . Meh.

One should be scene, not herd. :innocent:

Incidentally, I did hear Peter Murphy's "The Sweetest Drop" playing over the intercom system when I was out on the deck of a boat going from Zeebrugge to Hull 3 years ago - does that count? I was pretty gobsmacked and still am, to be honest!

Edit : PS it wasn't a goth cruise, it was an ordinary P&O ferry

Bloody Hell, Goth or not go check it out and enjoy yourself. Besides I don't think anyone here is going to die if you do. If it's fun, good, if not then you can tell us about your trip and we'll happily avoid it because of your bad review. George Elliot say's, "What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?"

I've been on a Goth boat party but never a cruise. The party was fun :D

I read a short review of the same documentary in Entertainment Weekly...
which is available at my workplace as one of my co-workers subscribes.

I reviewer said it was okay, but got rather bored by the interviews with
goffs expressing how miserable their lives were or how their parents did not
understand them... the reviewer simply wanted to know if goffs melted (or
burned up) in the sun whilst drinking their cocktails (or some such)!

They wrote that it was so depressing that they had to put on a Sisters of Mercy
record afterwards!

Either way -- if you enjoy that kind of thing, go for it sistersfaninma!
Have fun and tell us about after... it is not for everybody here, but it does
sound highly amusing. I am trying to find a torrent... no luck, but I think it
will be made into a DVD soon... and I will watch it... here is a preview...
http://www.ifc.com/video/On-IFC/Documen ... 3312687001

Like some others, I do not fit any goff template... but I tend to enjoy much
of the same music, whether it is old school post-punk-emo-rock or
some of the new-school darkwave electro-dance/pop/rock etc.

Also, I saw some videos on YouTube of Star Industry playing at the
Whitby Goff Weekend... looked like fun! They are a great band... sounds
like Fields of the Nephilim, TSOM and Depeche Mode had a
bizarre love tryst and the devil spawn was Star Industry!
     ;D

Am I the only one that thinks that music makes the goth?

The other day a friend of mine into, among other things, a lot of 80's goth told me she wasn't a goth because she didn't subscribe to all the non musical rubbish. On the same day I got told I'd be a bad president of the leeds uni gothsoc because I'm too about the music and wouldn't be welcoming to people that weren't.

BOLLOX.

Star Industry rock hard, if they're playing at Whitby Goth weekend and you wanna see them, go and watch them! I hate that the real music fans avoid the goth scene, which should exist soley (IMO) to promote and nurture the bands and artists associated with it.

Leeds Uni Gothsoc? Whatever happened to Black Lodge?

I think of any kind of cruise as a vacation-hell, let alone a goth one. I really don't understand why people go on them.
