Pirates of the Caribbean (at Worlds End) Quote:

Was watching P.O.T.C 3 on Sky today, as you do on a boring Bank Holiday Friday afternoon and during the Pirate Lords' meeting , Captain Barbossa made this statement:

Barbossa: “Better were the days when mastery of seas came not from bargains struck with eldritch creatures… but from the sweat of a man’s brow and the strength of his back alone. You all know this to be true!

First time I've heard the word used on telly for ages..if at all. Just thought I'd share this lame bit of trivia with you all..

Carry on.

On an entirely different note:-
In episode four of season two of Reaper (show about guy who discovers he is the son on Satan and has to work for him returning escaping souls to Hell) at about ten minutes towards the end a character discusses the history of the Nephilim re: angels taking humans as partners.

There's a whole X-Files episode on the Nephilim (in that sense) too.

Years ago, round about 1987 or so, my then girlfriend lived in Stevenage. She ranted and raved about her friends band who she said ' Are just like the Sisters' and that I'd love'em. They were called the Fields of the Nephilim.

I did indeed go and see this band many times and instead of seeing 'the new' Sisters I got to see four (or was it five) blokes dressed as cowboys weaing Home Pride flour on their clothing and in their hair ,one of them was even called Carl and was a car mechanic by day!

I certainly didn't see the over sized biblical people standing around in a field that sounded like the Sisters that I'd been promised:( *tsk* women eh!!!

As well as Miami Vice, the Nephilim were on Emmerdale Farm.

Perhaps, but you're forgetting the crucial fact that Carl was cute back then.

Oh Christ yes, I totally overlooked that fact..Carl McCoy's Crisps was like the Zac Efron of Goth back then and of course that's why I went to see them perform so many times in small dank gloomy clubs ! How silly of me !! What was I thinking..

I know, I just picked the generic 'go to guy' that the kids these days seem to find 'cute'.- or are told by the gay guys who edited magazines and gossip websites. Personally, I'd rather set him on fire and throw him down a disused mineshaft..but hey - that's just my wacky and personal opinion.

Now if ya wanna talk about cute goths.. Let's start with Neve Campbell in "The Craft " and the girl in Ginger Snaps ( before she turns into a werewolf)

Carl McCoy was a car mechanic? I've no idea why (and no offence intended to any car mechanics tuning in) but I find that utterly hilarious. ;D

I'd imagine him as more of a car exorcist, to be honest: "Well, Mrs. Johnson, you've got an evil spirit in your distributor cap. It seems related to Nyarlathotep. But by crikey, I've got the right incantations and reagents to do the job and get you back on the road! First, I'll need some flour. Now, where did I leave my bat guano..."

is carl the singer? because if he is he's not a mechanic but runs his own design business somewhere in home counties land.

although surely it would have been better had he worked for RHM - flour for freeeeeeee!!!

i did like that tune tho. Moonchild.

was he vertically challenged then?

actually i think i recall him wearing quite high heels on his cowboy boots.

possibly thats where the idea for the hat came from - adding a bit of height?

actually thinking back they remind me now of the film Jeepers Creepers!! ;D

I'm about 95% certain that there's an interview from 87 or so that confirms the "car mechanic" hypothesis.

Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go see about this strange knocking coming from my engine...

This is true.

Carl / Sheer Faith did the cover designs for all (or at least most) of the Nephilim stuff.
