If you're having a bad day... (currently happy)

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Slightly happy: I just remembered that Thatcher is still dead.

Bit of a result today.
Went to the supermarket to pick up a some bread & a 24 pack of beer & went to the self service checkout as usual. Scanned the bread & put it in the bagging area & then scanned the tray of beer. The tray has a barcode on the bottom but there are 2 scanners perpendicular to each other I guess to cater for weird shaped & large stuff. I scanned & plonked it in the bagging area & got the usual "authorisation needed, please wait" alert so the guy manning the checkouts could come & manually confirm I wasn't a school child. But the scanner must have read a barcode on one of the cans. Add to that the guy was so busy chatting to his mate he didn't bother to check what was in the bagging area. So I paid for one can of beer & walked out with 24.
Get in! :D
Cheers.

My Hungarian driving license arrived just 3 days after surrendering my GB one.
Was expecting a 30 day wait, so 3 days is a bit brilliant really

The ADAC got my car running again ... :D :D :D ... within half an hour the car mechanic arrived , checked the generator (perfectly operative, fortunately ) and the battery (somewhat weak, ought to be taken under observation for a while) and with a jump-start and half an hour of
cruising all was fine again. I love the ADAC. Of course, I was more than an hour late, but hell. They reliably got me out of the mess so often
over the years and in situations far worse than being stuck with the car near home on XMas eve ... endless kudos from here ...

So it seems that my days of lying on the sofa watching torrented TV series and my evenings of chasing what must be the cleverest mouse in all of the 7 kingdoms( I swear, I've been trying to catch this little bastard for 6 months, tried traps, bait, glue-pads, rail guns, nail guns, a 12-guage sawn-off of dubious provenance, Stingers, and ICBMs, and have achieved little other than peppering my recently-replastered-and-painted walls with holes. I would ask friends if I could enlist their cats in my efforts, but I suspect that the cats between them could not muster the same amount of brains as this particular mouse possesses. However, I think I've fixed his wagon - spent last weekend stuffing steel wool in every hole I could find, and I've not seen or heard him since, so fingers crossed) may be coming to an end. Apparently there is an itty-bitty start-up that is convinced that they cannot possibly survive one more day without my product management skills, so assuming that they actually send me the paperwork then I start on the 8th. The commute's a bugger, mind - I have to go all the way from my bed to my desk, which may be 40', so I shall have to start getting up at an ungodly hour. Seriously - who starts work at 9 o'clock in the morning?! It's frankly very uncivilised.

Right. If you've been knocking around these parts for more than a day or two you'll know that I'm a cynical (not to mention an evil) old bastard: show me a picture of a beautiful sunset and I'll tell you that the colours are only because of the amount of sh*t in the atmosphere, sh*t that will give you cancer, mug your granny, and tease your cat.

That said. So Monday I started this new job. They sent me a massive binder called The Onboarding Atlas to use during the 3-day orientation. Bear in mind that this is a company with less than 300 people, which has been around for 2 years. This atlas has chapters on "mindfulness" and "rules of business success", so I'm anticipating a "grandmother/egg-sucking" scenario - blah blah blah. This ain't my first go-round this circuit.

Turns out that it's not. Turns out that I may have found a company that thought "Hmm, how do we make sure we get the fundamentals right, and then build on those?" If the rest of the place runs like this then it should be a blast. Not to mention that their product is pretty cool - a really robust technological solution to a problem, they're the only game in town, and it would be pretty damn' difficult for anyone to replicate it. Reminds me a lot of my first proper job - same mindset and product approach. Stay tuned.

i was finally able to buy myself some new boots today as an ingeniously canny "home bargains" shop owner had noticed that for some idiot reason shoe shops are considered non-essential (unlike the firework shop which has remained open throughout) and has started stocking cheap footwear! got a not-too ugly pair of black steel-toecapped for £18 which whilst not ideal are 42 holes and a 3 times reglued sole better than my nike "colland-airs."

they are just cretins. end of. they cater to the bottom-feeding section of the fanbase and thats fine - those people are stil fans and are entitled to be, they just operate on a different level to us- but when the group allows bollocks to be spouted without correcting it, then start telling me i am wrong when i correct it they can go f**k themselves. my feelings with regard to this group deepens with every visit and it grates on me. for example, there are a hell of a lot of songs on youtube purporting to be The Sisters which are in fact "the merry plagiarists" and group members often post these knowing no better or thinking its an unreleased track. thats fine, but the admin says NOTHING! just one example of many...
that group -and i stress my problem is with the way its "run" not with its clueless membership- complies with all Vons Laws Of The Internet. :von:
