Hello,

I have an aging vinyl copy of Gift in the loft, and no way to play it :( Does anyone know where I can get a more up to date format?

cheers!

You might want to try eBay - the CD turns up there occasionally. Prices fluctuate wildly, though, so be patient...and bid calmly.

Given the prices that the cd sometimes goes for,you might be better off buying one of those usb turntable jobbies for about fifty quid. Then you can play all those other records that live in your loft, that you haven't told us about 8)

A turntable jobby you say? (you need to say that in a Glaswegian accent like mine :D )

I don't have a great deal of records in the loft. Mostly B52s and Tenpole Tudor if I remember correctly. And a fantastic Russian band called Avia - no idea what happened to them.

They're a mod con that you don't actually need.

Basically a USB turntable is a Turntable with a USB out that you can stick into your PC and record your records to MP3 (or whatever) format.

Actually you can do the same thing with you nice 1985 issue record player just by getting a cable to go from the headphones out port of the player into the line in of your PC - I've been doing it for ages.

Thank you, Maisey, for the hint ... I shall try that. Got most of my music on vinyl ...

You might be able to find the mp3s of Gift knocking about the Internet with a bit of luck.

But of course the management of HL cannot condone file-sharing of copyright material.

True enough, though it'd be hard for Merciful to complain about it, since it's been out of print for years.

it is (for the most part) rather groovy isn't it?

the 2 complaints i'd have with it are

a) its rather short
b) it feels a little disjointed

but given the speedy nature of its construction, and the reason for its release in the first place, that's hardly surprising...

Yeah, I always liked this record. I really wished there'd been a couple of more tracks on it. It may be sacrilege to say it, but I much preferred it to Floodland. Sure, Lucretia was great but that other stuff... fortunately Vision Thing came and restored my faith 8)

This thread inspired me to give the record a spin last night, for the first time in awhile and you do forget how good it is.

Some of us have never had either problem.

I actually find myself replaying it, which is no doubt in part due to its brevity - however, there are few things I feel like listening to more than once at a sitting, no matter how much I may enjoy them. 8)

Rain From Heaven has been on pretty much every TSOM mix CD I've made. Great track.

Yes it is brilliant from start till end indeed. :notworthy:

The only vital thing I miss is the due lead singer, but that's me, I'm biased beyond all decency

Plus I'm hoping for an all new Dr.Jeep/Jihad medley in Beirut.

now that would be something! 8)

not that i'm going to beirut (i wish! :( ), but i personally wouldn't mind if they played rain from heaven - medley or no medley.

provided, of course, some nice person taped it
