Ouch!!!
“Sorry to say the show is cancelled.
Dave Gahan is ill. We’ve had a doctor in to see him backstage and unfortunately the doctor’s advice is that Dave cannot perform. In fact he is now on his way to hospital for a check up. Dave really wanted to be well enough to perform and apologizes for letting you fans down.
We are hopeful Dave will recover by tomorrow and that we can re-schedule the show for tomorrow but we will only know this tomorrow so listen for public announcement on radio and internet tomorrow. “

I heard 4-5 songs from puressence and they were nice to hear live, even if they played a very small number of songs as i understand for a support act...

Puressence have probably their strongest fanbase here in Greece, i ve lost counting how many times they have already played here, and always to full houses.

Τhe gig was so heavily promoted on every tv station and magazine it must have been something realy serious to call it off.

A pitty for those who went quite a way to get to where the gig was taking place..

Fellow ppl of MyHeartLand...
I am deeply socked right this moment.... :?
There is a deep connection between what happened to :von: in Thessaloniki last month, and that that happened to the singer of DM yesterday...
Firstly, the singer of DM still is in a hospital in Athens this very moment i write these words. There are many-many ppl that see him and treat him and take care of him...
The hospital's name is Metropolitan. He was a sniff away from the point of no return.
According to ppl that tried to come to the place of the gig approximately when Puressence were playing on stage 19:00-19:30 (GTM +2), an ambulance was trying to leave the backstage. The same ambulance that finally arrived at this hospital.

....to be continued...

anyway...
it has to do with a white powder like thing that Eric Clapton wrote a song about it in the past...
yeap, that one...
Doctors and management of DM keeps the guy in controlled environment to detoxicate him and send him to NY to heal him...
this will take about a week so, if you hear that 1-2 next gigs will be cancelled don't be surprised...
Ppl here said it from the first moment... it's a common secret thing that this specific promoter-organizer gives strange gifts to the artists... :?
Doctors were worried very much about the condition from the first moment...
And the gastrederitis thing is like a bad joke in their circle...
They tend to use this to cover the reason behind, or to let their collegues know what they faced without givin' target to bad tongues... :urff:

Hmm - I thought Dave had been clean for years? And Martin as well?

Figured there would be some talk here about this - when I read an article mentioning gastroenteritis I thought hmm, as in the same thing that knocked out Von and the boys for a bit on their recent European tour - interesting.

"Dear all,

just to assure you Dave isnt back on any sort of drugs whatsover, nor has he returned to alcohol. He also has not had a row with my sister in law, his wife Jennifer, who is constantly by his side at this time. There is a genuine medical reason Dave isn't able to perform at the moment. Please do not ask me to divulge any further information as I will not respond to those requests.

For further show information please consult the DM website www.depechemode.com for further announcements.

Please be assured that Dave is very disappointed to let you , DM's fans down, and keep hold of your tickets for any refunds or should the shows be rescheduled, they will allow you entry to the venues.

Please respect the Dave's and our family's privacy at this time.

Thanks for your understanding.

Respect always, Phil"

and re: the above comments, the sissies really were ill.

it was nothing to do with any drugs.

100% not.

ask any of the travelling fans who were in contact with them around the time.

The automatic assumption of 'It must be drugs because that's what it was 20 years ago' really gets me steamed. Image

While it's absolutely true that official diagnoses such as 'exhaustion' are used to cover everything from nervous breakdown to OD, rumour-mongering when there hasn't even been an official diagnosis is really not on.

Seconded. They don't cancel or postpone shows unless for a very good reaason - and drugs had nothing to do with it. The band and crew were genuinely ill from Oslo onwards, and they still managed most dates of a heavy schedule despite feeling like s**t for a large part of it :notworthy:

And as for Dave Gahan, I wish him a fast and full recovery.

The greek gig apparently was to be the first of Depeche on this Tour. So exhaustation would mean Dave's even more of a wimp than I am. :(
..they don't make them like they used to, hm?
Dave, best wishes for a quick recovery! :notworthy:

Let me be clear...
I have friends in the close circle of the Doctors that take the toxicological exams of Gahan...
The Docs and Nurses said to their families and friends that Gahan was toxicated to a critical point for his health...
I hope, as i believe we all do that Gahan will come back strong...
The only thing worries me is that ppl here seems to know who gave this s**t to him and if there is truth in this, i don't wanna think of anything...
Just hope that certain ppl are stronger in character and have the ability to say clear NO to some things surround them...
This is totally truth from first hands witnesses that couldn't contain the facts in their minds. And i believe it is not bad for all of us to know about certain facts... And there is no such thing as privacy in cases like the specific. When 40,000 people wait to see a concert, 1,000 people working as stuff, another 1,000 people work around this area (policemen, paramedics, nearby-shops) and another 25,000-40,000 people affect temporarily that day their life from the traffic around the area , also add that because it was a normal working day and not a weekend 40,000 work places didn't work exactly at normal level. Multiply this by 4 (an average number of family members) and you receive a nice amount of people that witness something was different for a day...
i will not bring the issue that the cheaper ticket for the concert was 60 Euros (there were also at 80 and 100...), in a period of time that the average old age pension in this country is at 480 to 500 Euros per month.... the usual fee as a first wage at jobs is about 700 Euros per month...
He had no right to f**k up the sacrifices for so many families for a 2 hours of happy relaxing mode, with sniff...

Btw, he is in a suite on the 7th floor of the private hospital in Athens Greece, for those who wishes to send him flowers... :urff:

Your comment is a bit mean and unjustified, everyone knows how easy any kind of info will leake out, you should know, just take a look at any issue of "the sun".

Especially when people who "have friends in the close circle of the Doctors" post them on the internet... :innocent: ;)

To be honest, I think this thread is getting dangerously close to being libel against Dave Gahan.

any issue of the sun goes straight in the bin. ffs - i have to keep my mouth shut about my pupils, so why cant a doctor on his patients?

We all have jobs, so everyone knows that things CAN go COMPLETELY wrong sometimes, is a gig that different ?
So you cant realy blame either the band or the manager or even the organizer,
though from what i hear and everybody agrees on that, it was a disastrous handling of the situation as still there s no sign of reschedule or refunding the tickets, and people had to leave the area through one single gate, why go figure.
By now four more gigs have been canceled from this tour.
