Why isn't the "Mother Russia-part" included in the video?

Yeah, I think the Dominion single just featured 'Dominion' and not 'Mother Russia'.
Cool video, though.

Mother Russia was omitted from the single because it was felt it
might harm the performance of the single, particularly on the other
side of the pond, as it were.

Plus it'd have been a wee bit long.
The Dominion bit alone lasts for about 4 and a half minutes - long enough for a single.

and singing about a (generally) cold country whilst standing in the heat of the desert would have looked a little strange!

and the single the video is promoting doesn't feature Mother Russia.

If you literally take Dominion as a song about the Middle East solely by virtue of the fact the video was shot at Petra (although there's little direct reference to the region in the actual lyrics with the exception of "sand") and Mother Russia about the former Soviet Bloc then they share one thing in common, being demonized and feared by the USA.
Maybe the two aren't that far apart?
Or maybe it was just a convenient exotic holiday for Spig and Pat?
Much nicer than a warehouse down in Docklands.....

I remember reading in 1988 - that the "Dominion" video cost £50,000 - was filmed in, as you say, the city of Petra.
Other trivia includes - You HAVE to ride a horse to the site - and VON is allergic to Horses and that VON was offered 100 camels for Patsy (he declined the offer ARF!)
This information was taken from a copy of Smash Hits in 1988 !

I've often wondered if that was animals or cigarettes.

Maybe we should compile a list of ex-Sisters members and their relative worth in camels, I'll start the ball rolling.....
Patsy - 100 camels
Craig Adams - 300 camels
Mike Varjak - 1 camel

I'm not sure if you HAVE to ride into Petra on a horse, there are back entrances. But in terms of STYLE, it's a necessity. I did it myself, but unfortunately the style bit was undermined by the fact that the horse the guides gave me was grey, had long furry ears and went 'eeee-yaw' a lot. My friends had horses that went 'neigh', and got there quicker than me. This is completely true, although, I am prepared to concede, somewhat less than completely interesting. I'd rather have used a helicopter, but then I'm not a premier division intellectual love god.

I'd pay 1,000 camels for Von, Ben Gunn, Craig Adams and Gary Marx, and I'd make them perform for me 3 times a day.
And has anyone else wondered how the hell Von managed to keep that white suit so spotlessly clean during his days in the desert?

Because, it's the exact same white suit as worn by Boss Hogg in the Dukes of Hazzard...
No matter how many times them pesky Duke boys ran Boss over, that suit stayed spotless.....
