The tune didn't really knock me out off my shoes, but it's not at all bad.
Somewhere between early Ultravox and Project Pitchfork soundwise.
I have weak spots for both of them, actually. Maybe that's why I rather like it.

I've just had a listen and, despite it not really being my thing, its much better than I expected!

I'd describe it as being a bit like a much nastier Caberet Voltaire, possibley what Laibach might have sounded like if they'd been living in Sheffield in 1978.

Its a horrible, unpleasant track (but not nessissarily a bad one) so I can see why it wouldn't be terribley well recieved by many. I can also see what you are going for and I'd say you've achieved it very nicely, its just a case of finding your audience I guess.

None the less, thank you for the upload.

i'll be brutally honest and say it doesnt move enough to cut it as a lead track, but when it does move (that middle segment with the drums) its a not a bad noise at all... and the complete piece wouldnt sound out of place nestling alongside some of the slower, more abstract stuff skinny puppy or ggfh have done...

find a track with that killer groove and then whack this one alongside it and you've the making of a decent industrial ep

EDIT: That said, though, there are a few replies which have left me perhaps a little confused. Still, I'd rather keep going along this path than with the noise-beats from the first album. Prohibition is the only old song I still play live, at least.

Korin - songs not too good. Why don't you try a cover version or two?

Covering is good and well for getting the playing skills into shape. I wish the band I was part of would have done a good deal more of that (any of it, actually) instead of "making" 2 new songs per rehearsal that (naturally) were abysmally bad.
Playing skills don't really seem to be that much of a weak spot here, rather exercise in making (Remember how much better The Mumbles got in the process? Or The Sisters, to name a better known band? ) the songs.

I have never intended to make a living out of music, nor have I ever claimed to want to.

a) Because if I did a cover by a band you all knew, I would want to put it on a CD, and thus would most likely have to pay significant copyright fees for something that won't sell beyond 10 copies.
b) Because I don't really feel like doing any at the moment. (Though one day I'll finish that version of Pachelbel's Canon In D...)
c) Because I already did a cover on the first album.

I know my songs are bad. I will say it slowly, loudly and very obviously, I Cannot Write Songs Well. I Am Not A Good Songwriter. If I were, I'd be doing a lot better. However, I prefer to make songs sound fairly well-produced, because that's something, IMHO, that I can do.

To be honest, I was hoping for a wide range of replies from enjoyment to hate (as I'm used to at gigs). Though I realise the vast majority of people here aren't really into this sort of music. FWIW, I love Smokestack, and am really f**king proud of it. Oh well, at least you listened.

Never quit, ask for opinions but rarely follow them.

And I guess there's not much musicians around here that will even think about doing it for a living. Most lousy job there is I think.
