They are studio monitors, and good ones at that.

AFAIK, these MKII models are a lot better balanced in sound than others in their price category (Yamaha NS-10M for example, them 'white coneys' you see in a lot of studios), which is paramount for a studio monitor.

They give a nice rounded bass, but they tend to cut rather sharply down around the 50 Hz.

Which is not really a problem because that subsonic BOOOMMMM will still be heard, but it will sound 'controlled' instead of 'all over the place'.

After a second's thought, they're nothing for you James... ;D

naw, they don't sound like my thaang Iz, ta

can you recommend a really sloppy big fat bass sounding speaker combo or should I just buy a sub-woofer and if so what would chum up well with my gorgeous Yamaha DSP-A5 amp, it has a dazzling array of in and outputs?

I would recommend 2 sub-woofers.

Subwoofers have no place in a stereo setup. 2 speakers and that's yer lot.

blimey, they sold via 'buy it now' this morning :D ;D

@ iz: no, not upgrading, just getting rid of some (relatively) expensive stuff that doesnt get anywhere near enough use these days to validate it's continued presence in the spare room...

now then... on to the rack fx units...

anyone wanna buy an alesis quadroverb? perfect for adding reverb to goff vocals ;)

or a zoom studio 1210 - http://www.samsontech.com/products/prod ... rodID=1633
