Meh. Just wait until the supervolcano under Yellowstone goes pop.

sorry. well loads of airports are shut. hope no-one is needing to travel in the next few days... we're closed, parts of germany, ireland i think and it's because aircrafts aren't built to handle it! i'm sure it's not healthy to inhale either though.emilystrange wrote:lord above, that was a catastrophic derail

I wouldn't worry about inhaling it, the ash is at the sorts of altitudes planes fly at, several km up. Here's a bbc article about the damage the ash can do to a jet engine. Nasty!

Thanks Mark, but what goes up must come down somehow. And if it can damage planes like that what could it do if we had to?

Yeah, I got caught with a cancelled flight this morn. It was a bit weird, nobody seemed to have a clue what was going on. No point in being annoyed though, you can't really argue with a volcano can you?MadameButterfly wrote:sorry. well loads of airports are shut. hope no-one is needing to travel in the next few days... we're closed, parts of germany, ireland i think and it's because aircrafts aren't built to handle it! i'm sure it's not healthy to inhale either though.emilystrange wrote:lord above, that was a catastrophic derail
It was a bit surprising that Ryanair cancelled though, I would have expected their attitude would be more on the lines of "take their money, put them in the air, and sure the pilot can fly around the falling magma".
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

No you can't argue with a volcano unless you can handle the steam! Shame though, all flights were cancelled at Schiphol but we are decent enough to put beds out for those passengers that couldn't find a hotel or motel in the area. Haha, no Ryanair or any airline don't want the planes dropping out the sky thank god, and one pilot was saying they don't risk flying over or under or anything! I seriously hope someone goes back to the design board to build better planes that can handle the heat and gases coming from them! She was only smoking though, no eruption so no lovely lava that is good for nature, pity. Oh and there are huge clouds hanging over us today! I seriously hope it doesn't rain.mh wrote:Yeah, I got caught with a cancelled flight this morn. It was a bit weird, nobody seemed to have a clue what was going on.
