Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. I'm not a fan of comic books (gave up around 14 or 15 with Marvel's New Gods) but this is not a rant.
I d/l Watchmen from TPB tonight it seemed it was time I was indoctrinated.
All through the 90s bands I was into kept quoting and citing it surely it was gonna be my thing?
Apart from the name and the image of the 'Smiley' with blood on it, I ken Zer0, yet its influence pervades, so in I went...

I had to stop the movie a third of the way through because I honestly couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. It looked fine and maybe I'm just having a 'dim day' but the plotline was all over the shop. So I'm here asking for help and pointers - I ken Alan Moore (knows the score) disassociated himself with it, but is it really that bad?

all I'm after is some guidance

Not bad film but was nowt as good as the comic. Tab bit disappointed.

Have you never seen a film where all the pieces are thrown out and ultimately they mesh together into one picture by the end? Watching only a third of the film may be the problem. Like you, I knew the art from the comics, but not the storyline. It is actually better that way because then you do not have any preconceived notions about what to expect. I went to see the film and gave it a thumbs up. It may not be Mad Max, but still worth seeing. Give it a try.

fact, I did not know about the comic before I watched the movie.
I loved every bit of that so I got myself a copy of the comic to again be amazed. I can see why they did chainge some stuff and I can see why the fans don't like the movie.
but still James, give it another chance.

Doctor Manhattan basically represents the "bomb" and by extension the pointlessness of "Cold War " mutually assured destruction, as do the superheroes in general. It is a very nihilistic text, particularly in regard to the original ending of the graphic novel.

Sod it, I'm too drunk/tired to really get in to this.

I've raad it but haven't seen the movie. Thought it was OK, but it really did need a second read to get some of the more subtle nuances (like ******* was the guy with the "end of the world" sign all along - I completely missed that first time).

All the same, Judge Dredd is better. :D
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Watchmen is a story set in an alternative 1985, where the world is ticking closer to the brink of nuclear war, and a plot to eliminate a band of ex-crime fighters is instigated, but why? and by whom? It is up to two of those ex-crime fighters to investigate the plot that seems to go beyond the unthinkable.

I read the comic books, but they didn't really get me. Some things spark your imagination and others don't - it doesn't necessarily mean you don't understand it, or that the piece of artwork would be bad. Just different tempers, different tastes... forgive me if this is gibberish! I am trying to be philosophical in a foreign language ;D

I would be curious to see the film though. It should be weird.

Why though did the Comedian and the Moluk(??) have to be murdered though - because they knew the big secret??

Watched it last night. I don't know eastmidswizzkid but I bet he can't play the guitar like Wilco. I love the idea that he was a school teacher :lol:
