Chameleonsvox is the current project from Mark Burgess and John Lever, vocalist and drummer of the now legendary Manchester band The Chameleons. They are now, along with two very talented guitarists and an equally talented bass player (who also feature in Bushart), embarking on a European tour that will see them playing for the first time in nearly ten years a full live set of Chameleons songs.

They set out to explore the depths of their own psyches some time in 2007. Jez’s distinct bass-baritone voice and emotion laden lyrics often remind people of The Smiths, or Joy Division. The guitars somewhere between The Cure and The Chameleons, or Sonic Youth, and Sigur Rós. This is a band built on people, on diversity, on the very essence of what makes us human.

Not *quite* The Chameleons, but I suppose that's as close as it's gonna get? Regardless, it's still a chance to watch Mark Burgess sing those songs so if there's any date near me on this tour i'll be straight there.

Not quite the real thing, no.

But I have a reliable report that they were better in Boulton on Saturday than the real thing had been on the reunion tour at the Manchester Academy in 2000.

I also have fond memories of The Sons of God (different guitarists, same material) one night at the Duchess in Leeds. An absolute belter of a gig.[/quote]

I'd seen TRT in York in 2000, and after having seen the Sons of God & Paradyning previously, it were not quite as all there as I had expected it to be. It was certainly the least convincing Mark Burgess performance I'd seen.

So no - my 'reliable reporter' was basically echoing my own thoughts. That's why I can be sure he's reliable.

Not from us - no need to mislead people to promote this event. That doesn't stop people from reading what they want into it. But you have to make some sort of strong association with the original Chameleons in order to promote the event. It is, after all, probably as close to the real thing as we're ever likely to get since the 2nd split.

People are people. We were getting no end of phone calls, messages to confirm or deny it might just happen. And you're right, 'probably as close' but sadly just not close enough fer me anymore

But still, getting back to the 2000 Reunion, although I wasn't there on Fri (or whenever it was, so really I shouldn't/can't even comment) you can hardly compare the two if your honest, now can you? What was it that made it better, sound quality, track listing, atmosphere?

Oh aye, that Fibbers gig was bloody awful - allsorts of stuff went wrong but that wasn't the gig I was referring to

maybe it wasn't brilliant, but the atmosphere of the band/crowd....

oh and admit, when did you ever get a chance to see your favorite band in a rapidly converted Greek restaurant.

Last Tuesday at the Ian Curtis tribute night the nice people of Trix got the dj to play some Chameleons songs especially for me... maybe not on the same level as the gig, but still very nice too

I know EXACTLY what you mean, towards the end (before the split) I was going for those reasons - the camaraderie was beyond words ( you ask any of the Wishville crowd. I mean, 'people' are STILL looking after some drumsticks for me How special is that? ).

Perhaps that's why some of us find it so hard to deal with the situation now.

Gaz used to be Mark's 'cushion' but I'm sure that was during 'Splitting in Two'
