don't know if this came up yet... but last week i visited a recordshop in Gent (Belgium) which has a lot of rock LP's & singles.. i was surprised when i saw re-releases of "Damage Done" & Body Electric" with 2009 on the back..
is anyone up to date on the "how" & "why" of this? seems weird of them to reprint their first 2 singles
thanks

Australian bootlegs, bordering on the counterfiet I'm afraid.

They're bootlegs. There are a couple of threads kicking around in Trading IIRC.

Next to DD and BE there is also an Alice re-issue.

yep.
i've seen them and to be fair they are really good quality: card sleeves, proper labels, well printed artwork etc
i've never actually heard them, so dont know what the audio quality is like, but from a purely aesthetic point of view they look really nice.
(and lets face it, if you want to hear them you're just going to put 'some girls...' on aren't you?)
they do seem to make a point of not hiding the fact that they are (unofficial) re-issues as they have "2009" written fairly prominently on the back and on the labels, from what i remember.
to be honest, wherever they are from, they're quite nice, although i dont see any real value other than as curiosity pieces because a) they're not the originals and b) the songs are widely available on official compilation cds
if i didnt have the originals, i'd probably pay a few quid for each of them if i ever saw them in a shop, just to plug a gap in the 7" shelf

I have them both. I believe the white Alice 7" was also done which seems a bit redundant. But the sound quality is pretty good. Worth the couple of quid spent anyway. My only gripe is the BE is red vinyl.

Oh no - let's be clear, they are counterfeits, but I agree they are nice to have and fairly inexpensive too.
Bootlegs occupy a different space alltogether.

Bootlegs, counterfeits, same thing shurely?

Bootlegs are typically unofficial recordings, not intended for public consumption (live, demos, alternative studio versions/mixes) but are generally not masquerading as official material.
Counterfeits generally try to pass themselves off as official material, usually right down to copying every aspect possible.
Obviously, there is some overlap, but that's the general idea.

Well then, these aren't really counterfeits; they don't claim to be the original 1980's releases...
Compare, there are (or used to be) Damage Done 7"s that didn't even try to have the original cover, are they bootlegs or counterfeits?

Like I said, there is some overlap
The old DDs with the different covers (were they white-on-blue? Or some bright yellow or pink affair? Christ, 4 years ago I'd have known these things off by heart
) were bootlegs, I guess.
Wiki tries to explain it too, I guess.
