Black Planet Never Played Live?

Am I correct in the statement? I can´t seem to find it on any live output...

If so, is there any particular reason as to why that is the case?

Reasons that come to mind might include:
  • Von's a bastard.
  • It's too hard to play live.
Think I've covered them all there. ;D

I thought it was one of the least goff tracks on FALAA.

Here I tend to disagree, in my view it's definitely one of the more goff tracks on FALAA (together with the title track, Some Kind of Stranger, Marian, Nine While Nine, and of course Possesion)

I guess AE just doesn´t like it very much- for if he liked it very much I´d suppose they´d be all over that doo wop thing on stage.

Usually when you open an album you start with what you feel is one of the stronger tracks, so perhaps there were peripheral circumstances tarnishing its original sheen.

Well, they´ve done Marian a lot and that´s Wayne...and he has credit on Possession too.

NWN has only been done twice, early in '85 IIRC. Walk Away, Rock and a Hard Place and NTTC have been dumped in the wake of, erm, Wake. One would tempted to say Marx songs have generally been proving more timeless, given they've grown to be stables on the live set.

Whether the Mish connotations on certain FALAA numbers made Von steer clear from them, or whether he simply felt they were too Goff two albums later, is really a moot point in this conversation, as they didn't play Black Planet live, like, ever.

That's because Gary was the talent in the band - FACT!

We (The Reptile House) have added it to our set. Here is a vid of the first time playing it live. I can understand why they have never played it. It just doesn't seem to translate that well live. It's not a hard song to play but it has never come off as well as others.

Wow, I just watched that footage of us for the first time since I originally put it on youtube. Maybe I should have kept it off the site! I forgot how bad the sound was on that recording.

remindes one a bit of the earlier 80's bootleg tapes - I think that's quite fitting ;)
