SSV Picture disc

I've just found the SSV album on a promo picture disc, I'm in two minds whether to buy it or not, it's 25 GBP. Is it worth it for a disc that isn't really the sisters? What does it normally go for?

Its awful!!! Worth having only if your a collector. If you make it all the way thru once I would be surprised.

You could always make a clock out of it.

25 GBP? That's like 30 to 40 Canadian. I found a copy of the SSV for 5 bucks but still didn't bother. My heart wasn't into it and I didn't feel like a heart attack from what is said to be, well...garbage? Anyway...

And that's still much too kind. :urff:
At least it's effective. It's supposed to be very annoying, and that it is. And then some. :von:

when I just got into the sisters I found a copy of this on a dutch festival, but I was out of money so I had to leave it there... regreted it for years.
then I bought it on cd, still have to put that on for the first time

it is a collectors thing. but don't waste your money on it, i'm sure you can find a sheaper copy if you look for it.

Thanks everyone, Well i agree about it being unlistenable (Bloody awful), I was thinking about the collector side of things with it being a promo pic disc. I think I'll leave it tho, it is too expensive

AFAIK it's actually an MP3 sourced bootleg. :innocent:

Indeed.

To clarify: SSV never got an official release. All versions out there (unless there are trader-inner-circle versions ) derive from the mp3s that "leaked" (i.e. Eldritch released) onto the net back in 1997.

This includes vinyl versions -- bootleggers took the mp3s and made various vinyls from them.

The release almost happened. The CD and cassette were issued with East West catalogue numbers way back in 1997 i think. For the obsessed i have them written down somewhere. We tried to get some promos when i worked in a record shop, but none were forthcoming. Ads were also rumoured to have been placed.

But to agree, it isn't the best thing Eldritch has done.

Matt..

Being curious, I tested the flacs I have & they appear to be lossless.

Still a dog's egg though.

Someday I need to find and listen to this monstrosity, if it's really that terrible. :< Then again, I'm one of the sorts who can't look away from a trainwreck

it's not that bad.

it can actually be quite a pleasant experience, depending on how much alcohol happens to be in your system :innocent:

You know, it's not very hard to listen to. It's just so incredibly dull and boring. It's not even spectacularly bad, it's just very, very bad.

This sums it up correctly. It's not terrible as in "OH MY GOD I DON'T BELIEVE VON DID THAT!" or anything like that. Don't be expecting another Gift, and definitely don't be expecting anything that the consensus at the time would have said was terrible but hindsight grants more credit to. It's just quite nondescript in a moderately not-even-annoying elevator music kind of way. Ambient without any sense of ambience, techno without a beat, like something Sting would have recorded if Dire Straits had told him what Nickleback thought a Foreigner cover version of a Sisters song sounded like. Like over-boiled vegetables, a plate of steaming soggy mush with all the taste and goodness gone out of it.

You can hear some of the tracks here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7uIB9K17gs (NSFW).
