No, actually, no idea.

I was always under the impression that he arrived too late to play on the album at all and only played live.

Well, it won't be Ribbons I guess giving the different live sound he gave the song.

If he played on anything I'm gonna guess Dr Jeep or WYDSM if they were both tinkered with post-album release - would have given him the opportunity to add parts.

I always thought the main difference in the live Ribbons arrangement was the Doktor playing the groovy arpeggio-ish part from 91 onwards?

If we look at the recording based on what has been said:

- Some tracks were composed as demos before recording
- More was partially done with Jim Steinman in New York
- Det Blvd had guitar parts by John Perry
- Von had multiple mixes on several tracks
- Boyd Steemson said there were 5 songs completed before the band entered crunch mode and finished another 3 songs in a matter of days

It's fairly safe to assume the band had complete versions / multiple mixes on More, Det.Blvd, Vision Thing, WYDSM and Doctor Jeep. The rest (Ribbons, Something Fast and I Was Wrong) have decidedly extended outros, which could've been added simply to jack up the album length and to wrap up the songs somehow.

If Tim played on one song only, this could be because most of the tracks had been locked down already and they'd been busy tinkering with the final three.

This only leaves one question; if they were shorthanded on tracks to begin with, why wasn't YCBTO on the album?

it is a bit of a throwaway song, without the depth or subtleties of even something like WYDSM or More

it's more OTT and dumb-ass (on the surface) than the rest of the album, and i suspect von thought it would be pushing it a bit too far to have that on the album. it would tip the general tone & vibe of the album over the edge, possibly alienating even more fans than it did

and he needed a song as the b side for the first single... my guess is he thought this was the weaker of the 9 new songs, and as such was perfect b-side material.

Must admit always thought You Could be the One was much better than More.

Why is that a safe assumption? The long outros could be planned or, even if they were to fill out the album length, maybe they just weren't edited as heavily as other songs. There's no evidence there of which songs were complete and which weren't. You could equally argue that the ones with multiple mixes were unfinished because they hadn't decided on a final mix. He could even have added further guitar parts to Detonation Boulevard. It's all supposition.

YCBTO was a Bruhn composition, I think that's why it ended up
as a b-side. I remember me and my friends laughing our heads
off when listening to that track back in 1990, it was so funny!

Sounds like Tim has playing it in 1990. Listen to the live version of Ribbons on the b-side of WYDSM. Sounds like a guitar to me.
