Name for a new night

Thinking about running a new dark alternative music night in Leeds of music for the disenfranchised masses. Musically themed around Garage Punk, Goth and Dirty Rock n' Roll.

It'll be aimed at Rockers that want something more dirty than rock nights, Goths that are bored of Goth nights, Punks that would rather hear The Stooges than the Sex Pistols and Indie kids that think "Indie" and "Hipster" don't have to be the same thing.

But what to call it? Bear in mind we want to attract a wide range of people from lots of different scenes that all share a certain set of dark and dirty sensibilities. We also want to convince people that its "cool", not "niche". I'd like to run a night that both has integrity and is still a cool place to be seen at.

How can it have integrity with a premise such as you describe, or with you going around asking for a name?

i honestly don't get it. But don't bother explaining, people are able to rationalize anything they want.

it's known as being young and having fun but you have never experienced either of them, from your acid posts

(took me an awful long time to post that without the bile you instill in me)

I have the time and the inclination, so I will anyway.

To have integrity is for your actions to be consistent with your principles. At this stage the "principles" of the night are to play a combination of musical styles that fit together well but are rarely found in the same place and to revive the idea that something can be subversive and cool at the same time. How it develops time will tell.

To answer your second question; a decent name can be the make or break of a night. I asked the collective view of the Heartlanders because most of them seem to be intelligent music loving beings and that's the kind people who's input I value. Whenever I've put a question to heartland in the past I've almost always got a useful answer.

Pretentious waffle aside - myself and my co-organiser Dom enjoy doing this kind of thing. As James said, it's actually fun.

I've voted for Raw Power.

Good Luck with it Maisey, hope it's a success & that it can become a regular night for you all.

If I was living in Leeds I know I'd be one patron of it.
:D

itnAklipse.. Why so serious? :|

... seconded ...

The only one in question for me were RAW POWER, but it sounds so outworn ... :| ...

So, I'd suggest something like ... Strictly Raw ...

Raw Power is of course the name of Iggy & The Stooges seminal work, so changing it around would sort of defy the point.

I'm sorry but "strickly raw' sounds like an La glam band name. And of course glam stands for Gay L.A. Music. So perhaps another amendment? I'm only ctrying to create smiles not frowns and if you're offended, read the signature below....

I'd suggest you go with:

Famous for more than Five Minutes
Or a Damning Critique on the Fleeting & Tedious
Hipster Moron Culture, to the Musical Accompaniment of
Garage Punk, Goth, and Dirty Rock 'n' Roll.

But then snappy titles were never my forté.

Call it Lord Byron's Crack Den Of Sounds. It has a ring to it.

Good on you for getting off your arse and organising something.
Ignore the troll.
