Ever taken a punt on a record based soley on the sleeve art?

This one didn't work out so well for me:

I got into the Sisters purely by chance. I was in a public library that loaned out CDs as well as books. I saw the Vision Thing CD sitting on a shelf and the cover intrigued me. I had never heard of The Sisters Of Mercy but I thought I'd take a chance on it because the cover looked cool.

Interesting.
Most folks, I think, find out through word of mouth.

At my school there were absolutely no goths... everyone listened to Guns 'n Roses, Def Leppard and Joe Satriani.

There were no goths as I was coming up, either.
Mostly, because the word still applied to a historical culture &/or architecture, then.
I got labeled "Death Hippy" by some who insisted on categorizing folks,
but we were mostly just an eclectic blend of counter-culture postpunks
trying to look intimidating enough that the jocks would leave us alone.

Erm ... yeah, well ... ahem ...

I got into goth when I was about 15 ... circa 1986 (just before the second wave I guess) ... didn't really get know anyone else who was into that sort of music until a couple of years later so finding out what bands were out there wasn't all that easy what with the lack of independent record stores in the small English town where I spent my teenage years.

It was all a bit hit-and-miss to start out with ... although the back cover really should have been hint enough I guess. It's a little bit like 'First Avalanche' by Rose Of Avalanche ... only without any of the redeeming features that may (or may not) be considered to have.

Aw c'mon ... everyone has had a couple of stinkers in their collection at some point surely?

Aw now, Rose of Avalance are quite fantastic (in a silly way).

Yeah, but most of 'em are demos/promos of friends' music projects.
I don't throw them out b'cos I fear someday, they'll look through my albums,
but, the truth of the matter is that the fact that they're still in their wrapper
is a dead give-a-way that I'm not very interested in listening to them.

same 'cept it was an LP, and it was FALAA, age don't you know.

Me too, I love badgers!!! I was really shocked how many er... flat ones we saw whilst driving through the UK last year....
