THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. As a "newby" I'm probably a little late for the party re: a discussion about good stuff out there by Eldritch's "outer/inner circle" (past & present), but I'm hoping there's some works you folks can vouch for as being worth a spin, please.

"Depends what my taste is", from which "specific Sisters era", huh? - Well, for me it's all good... real good - but I have to say the "wall of sound" sound they've had in the last twenty odd years particularly does it for me, be it the renditions of their old stuff or the "new" :? s**t.

I've heard it on the streets (of the internet) that Reflect On This 'll kick my ass to the moon and back, right guys? Uh... guys?

Oh, and uh... thanks...! :notworthy:

Gary Marx's solo stuff is good--both 1995 and Nowhere and the other stuff.

XCNN is... forgettable.
Broon is... forgettable.
Patricia's Reflect on This is... forgettable.

Honestly, being forgettable is worse than being bad.

Mr. Chris Catalyst's non-Sisters work has been quite good.

Chris Sheehan/Starling's solo work and his Starlings work is very good, in my opinion. It doesn't sound like the Sisters, though. I really love the Starlings records in particular. Very... ugly in content, but not even remotely so in form.

chris catalyst's "eureka machines" are fab though 8)

only heard a coupe of starlings tracks but they sound like they might be an interesting band :)

Gotta say, Eureka Machines have a bit of a McFly vibe to me... nothing wrong with any of that. Well, plenty wrong with a lot of that, but it's good to see our lambchop-wielding man of action Cat clearly having far too much fun beyond the reach Von's beady "Sam the Muppet Eagle"-like glare.

CNN I saw at their debut gig in, during... ooh, well I remember that day everyone was making a big deal about the signing of some 'Magna Carta' ... and they were actually pretty good, before a certain corporate News Giant grabbed them by the scruff of the neck and demanded they think twice about clearly capitalising on the name of the channel's own, already well-established post-pub industrial rock outfit with an ex-Sisters of Mercy guitarist...

X-CNN, as they became, were - sorry to say - a shadow of their former selves (which at least would have been a better substitute name... ).

What about Pearson? There seems to be a lot of agreement at MyH-land that he was the best Sisters guitarist since Hussey, and I'm inclined to go with that. Anyone here have any idea what he's Done For Us Lately (or earlier)? Apart from TV commercials that is - I don't much fancy rocking out to Martine McCudgeon trying to flog me pots of gut-friendly bacteria. That one time was enough. :roll:

Pearson's been playing with the MC5; dunno if he still is though but at least he was last time I checked a coupla years back.

Craig's still doing jobbing bassman for various bands. Think he's really hooked up with Spear of Destiny these days. He's also been involved in something dreadful with members of the Alarm and the Saw Doctors.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Not much consensus.

As noted above, Tinstar is worth a listen, although I have not listened to them much lately to be honest. I am not sure if Jok kept the feel.

Andreas still gets playtime though.

yeah, i always thought adam p's guitar playing to be a bit pedestrian and lacklustre - especially by 2000 onwards :|

i don't remember mike v. having any particular personality or style to his playing either.

for me there was a marked up-turn in the levels of enthusiasm and character in the band when chris joined - he even seemed to reinvigorate adam for a while :lol:

Left The Sisters for Jackie on Assid. Never heard of them/him again.

Starlings: generic and boring.

XC-NN: totally underrated, LIFTED was a good album with a few great songs

TinStar: pretty good, turned into Underworld-lite but not bad

Broon: embarrassing

The Mish: well, you know...
