A friend of mine is building me a distortion pedal for me to pump my new found "mad guitar skillz" through. He wants to know if there are any existing distortions with the sound I'm after so he can base his circuit around the blueprints.
I'm still fairly new to all this malarky but I've already discovered the joys of delay and chorus turned up to 11, but since I don't have years of experience with different types of pedals, I'm stabbing in the dark on this one.
What distortion were Wayne and Simon using in Sisterhood era of The m*****n? I rather like the sound on the live recordings from that period. Anyone know what Mr King used to use?
I heard Choq posted a thread on here a while ago about this kind of thing, but hell if I know how I'd find it...

The most important thing is probably to avoid the high-gain buzzsaw/square-wave sound that one gets out of things like the BOSS Metal Zone. You probably technically want an overdrive pedal rather than a distortion pedal (I think).

On the subject of Goff rock distortion, does anyone know what guitar set-up Adam Pearson likely used for Under the Gun and / or Temple '92?

Well, that certainly sounds like him--and that was before reading the second link.
That being said, I also have a great love of the Electro-Harmonix BigMuff. Probably not ideal for old school goth rock, but great if you want to make a big, loud, ugly noise (which I generally liked to do when I played in bands). They're also quite tasty on bass.

I used to use a Boss Turbo Overdrive pedal through a Boss Chorus (CE2 I think) through a Boss 1/2 rack pitchshifter /delay ( for the delay because the sound quality was awesome) this used to give a nice powerful full sound when needed but was still tight enough for all that picky goth stuff without having to alter any settings.
You could also spill an amazing amount of beer over this setup and it would still work with no background noise. In fact it's still works nearly 25 years later ( but now it's coke zero).I would imagine this kind of stuff would be available on fleabay.
