SGWBM sleeve notes.

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Is it just me, or are the liner notes in the SGWBM sleeve one of the warmest and most beautiful things Von has ever written? It is just so unlike his usual writing - no wit, no sarcasm, no meanness (even though these may all be amicable things in their own right) - he even acknowledges Craig Adams huge impact on the bands early sound.
It is just really nice to see this side of Von, a side that can look back at the simple beginnings of what became his lifework with a sense of joy, pride, and nostalgia. "They may not sound like anybody elses, they may not even sound like records, but we loved them. For what it´s worth.".
Beautiful.

After reading the op I thought I don't remember any of that, so went to have a look at the cd out to refresh the brain cells. No wonder I can't recall it, my copy has the sgwbm outer cover on the booklet but inside its the floodland guff  .
Look like I'm going to have to find the cassette or the vinyl that's hiding in the attic

From memory, his intro to Postcards From Above The Chemist is similarly lacking in sarcasm or bile. Maybe not quite as warm and fuzzy but an unusual admission of weakness when he says that he didn't know how he was supposed to write songs so he just did it the way he could and hoped for the best. or something vaguely along those lines. Maybe he's mellowed in his old age. That would explain the cupcakes too.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

Ah, so they were written by someone else! That makes a lot more sense.
