Petition to stop Bear Hunt in Nevada
Posted: 22 Jun 2011, 17:36
This is something that I am strongly against.
The Nevada Dept of Wildlife have given the green light to a bear hunt - The first in Nevadas' history.
They're allowing up to 20 bears to be killed in this hunt. There are between 200 & 300 bears in Nevada.
The reason for this hunt........
"It's not for public safety. It's not for revenue. It's not for dealing with the nuisance bears. It's because we can."
That's the answer Nevada Wildlife Commissioner McBeath gave at a public meeting where a UNANIMOUS vote AGAINST the hunt was ignored and the hunt was allowed and is planned to start on 31-Aug and run until late Dec.
The maths just don't add up.....
They're granting 45 hunting licences for this hunt and as I said, they're allowing up to 20 bears to be killed, a maximum of 6 will be female bears. How are they going to govern these 45 hunters, how will they all know when even 1 bear has been killed?
If each of these 45 hunters kill one bear each then that is twice the original number that is proposed.
To me it's 20 too many in the first place.
There's an online petition against this hunt here
http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-be ... -it-begins
The online petition can be signed by anyone no matter what country you live in.
The organisers of this petitions website is
http://nobearhuntnv.org/index.html
Anyone who lives in California or Nevada can print out petititions found on the above website and ask friends, family, worknates, or total strangers to sign it.
Between all options they're trying to get 30,000 signatures to present to the Govoner of Nevada on 1st Aug.
Before you think "well, I don't live in Nevada so I really can't sign this petition", think of it this way, if people from all over the world sign it then it will send a louder NO because it will show the Nevada Dept of Wildlife that the world is judging them.
Thanks in advance to anyone who signs the petition.
