Vision Thing European vs. US version

Hi, I'm new to this forum and probably my question is boring to you. Nevertheless, I realized very late that there were two different versions of the "Vision Thing" album released back in 1990. The US version contains different/longer versions of "Ribbons" and "Dr. Jeep". Which version of the album is better? Thank you!

Yes, here's the EU version:
1 Vision Thing 4:36
2 Ribbons 5:25
3 Detonation Boulevard 3:49
4 Something Fast 4:36
5 When You Don't See Me 4:51
6 Doctor Jeep 4:39
7 More 8:22
8 I Was Wrong 6:03
... and the US version:
1 Vision Thing 4:35
2 Ribbons 6:08
3 Detonation Boulevard 3:49
4 Something Fast 5:16
5 When You Don't See Me 5:33
6 Doctor Jeep 5:19
7 More 8:22
8 I Was Wrong 6:03
Ah, there are more differences. Longer versions on the US release are "Ribbons", "Something Fast", "When You Don't See Me" and "Doctor Jeep"

Are these timings from actual CDs, or are they reported on the labels and/or Wikipedia? I wouldn't put much trust in them if the latter.

What mh said. Incorrect timings on sleeves, labels, booklets etc are very common.

Mmh, I found different sources. One of them here:

And on discogs.com ...
But, maybe it's just a misprint. Anyway, I would like to listen to a longer version of "Ribbons"
.

I think the time difference on Ribbons owes to one version carrying the last "incoming" over to the start of Detonation Boulevard.
I have both versions so will check tomorrow

Do that, robertzombie ...
I also had both versions ... but - for whatever reason - I didn't like the American one ... so it's gone ...

Aye, that would make sense.
It would be quite odd indeed if there were markedly different versions available and it hadn't yet come to light.

This reminds me a book "Club Dumas" from Arturo Perez-Reverte
If you haven't read the book, you propably watched the movie "Ninth Gate" directed by Roman Polanski. Johny Depp played in that the main char.
The scenario is if you combine correctly american and european version of VT with the correct versions of the songs, the ninth gate will open

That's quite a funny novel! It reminded me a bit of
Foucault's Pendulum actually.

True, A.P.R. read it for sure before start writing Club Dumas

Unfortunately it turns out I don't own the US CD release, only the two European pressings (9031-72663-2 YS [first CD pressing, I think]) and the widely available 9031-72663-2). Both discs have identical track times, however the 9031-72663-2 disc has noticeably incorrect track times on the back cover for Ribbons, Something Fast, When You Don't See Me, and Doctor Jeep.
It's probable that the US release has the same running times, but also features the incorrect track info.

Oh yeah. If I remember correctly, Eco himself makes a cameo at one point. Not by name, but he's described as something like "a famous bearded Italian professor of semiotics" or some such thing. Haven't read it in years...

Surely not 40 seconds worth?
