Chris Starling and Curve

Just a snippet.
Apparently Chris was briefly on the first Curve album:

Just found out, so I thought I'd share.
Which is kind of funny cos Rob Holliday from Sulpher (who are better than Oceansize by a long way - we Brits were screwed), was Curves touring guitarist. Small world.
Well, not if you're in a band I guess.

That looks like an early singles compilation, with 10 little girls being their 1st single. Doppelganger was the first LP IIRC - I must check and see was he on that.

yep, "pubic fruit" a (bizarely titled) compilation of the first 3 (i think) singles & b sides... and rather spiffing it is too

To be more precise, Starling played on the track "10 Little Girls", and was in a band with one-time Curve drummer Monti in the 80's (I know this 'cause Monti told me!)
Sulpher were a f*cking great support act IMHO, and they were offered the UK dates but were unable to do them 'cause Rob was supposed to be playing a gig with Flint (the new band of Keith Flint of the Prodigy), although the gig fell through anyway.
Rob also plays guitar with the M i s s i o n. Small world indeed.

When I got it from HMV, it was labelled "PUBLIC Fruit" on the price tag.
Which somehow makes it even more bizarre.

Glad to hear somebody else thought that Oceansize were particularly poor.

Yeah, they were bloody awful live. Sulpher rock and I'd have killed to see them as well.
Mind you, the oceansize tracks you can download from there website are worth a look - they've actually half-turned around my opinion of them. It's not entirely my sort of thing, but theres a certain wish-era-cure, sigur ros, mogwai -ish (even bits of proggy radiohead thrown in, the doves, my bloody valentine, maybe some nin...) thing goin on that's quite clever.
Oh, and out of interest, does anyone know how many support bands there were at the leeds show? I heard there was a third, but I got there quite late and missed them.

Nice avatar mh - Sonic Boom produced two 12" EP's for my old band back in '91....

Robbo started out with Numan. Then Hussey picked him after Mark left and he's been doing pretty damn hard r 'n' r since. You only live once, eh?

My cousin - very big Numanoid since 1978 - asked him about playing with Gary Numan after the recent Wolves gig. He seemed a bit embarrassed by it. Chris Starling obviously didn't know, and started teasing him. Not the response my cousin was hoping for (anecdotes about working for the great man-robot, introductions, signed copies, etc). But it seemed to make Chris Starling's day. Mind you, if we get down to the subject of playing with embarrassing people, I don't think Chris has a leg to stand on. I mean, Belinda Carlisle???!!!???

sadly, i dont think that chris was sexy enough to have made it into the go-gos
i gather he played in (solo) belinda's live band though - i assume he would have toured with her in the late 80s/early 90s? i think it mentions something about it on the sisters website somewhere...
