Is that an english thing? And do you put white beans in tomatoes on white bread, with butter. Sounds a bit messy for my taste.
Had beans in tomato sauce with mash potato and sausage for dinner. That was yummy though!

Toast! Not bread.
That's not just an English thing is it?

Don't forget to add cheese so you can have Cheezy Beans! Also, for the posh folk, add a fried egg under the beans.

I thought the correct way was to have the egg on top
I will ask delia next time I see her on the bus
I also thought beans on toast was one of those things that was global - apparently not

It will be messy if you do it like that!
"white beans in tomatoes" = baked beans, the bread should be toasted, and you can spread some butter (or margarine) on your bread if you wish.

You don't need to toast the bread. Baked bean sandwiches kept me alive when I was in my early 20s.
Smelly, but alive

I like looooaaaadds of butter. Makes the beans so deliciously calorific.

I'm sorry, but it's an act of culinary sacrilege to have beans on COLD bread.
This from a man who eats tinned chilli, mind.

yeah, the bread would just turn to mush
but baked beans on toast? hell yes.
with a dash of balsamic, or a pinch of sweet paprika (but not both) in the beans.

Ah, you'd think so, but no, the butter/marge forms a protective waterproof layer between the beans and the bread.

but you don't need butter/marge. the bean juice gives it enough moisture
or maybe being vegan for ~10 years sullied me... i would use butter/marge these days

Think the first thing to do there is to take the beans out of the equation

Minced beef. Cook it with oxtail soup. Mash it up with potatoes, add ketchup, broon sauce and/or mustard (English preferably, French will do, none of that yellow American hot dog crap) to taste.
Stick it in the fridge overnight.
Make sandwiches.
Mmmmmmm-mmmmmmmmmmmm.
