they're selling their own collection of live recordings ("official bootlegs"?) for $5 a gig...

Up to 800 gigs from the band will be made available on the archive available from the band’s own Dischord Records.

...

In keeping with its commercial principles of low prices and trust in fans, the shows’ suggested price is $5 each, with a sliding scale of $1 to $100, for the cheap or the philanthropic.

...

“Why did we record all the gigs? I’d say it was for posterity, but to what end, we had no idea, Mr. MacKaye said in an interview this week. “As with a lot of collections, once we had a couple hundred tapes, we just continued to amass them. Why stop? We’d already gotten this far.

Looking forward to checking this out. Along with Nomeansno, The Reverend Horton Heat, and the Supersuckers when they were at their peak (which they decidedly aren't anymore), they're one of the best live bands I've ever seen. I bet there's some great stuff in there.

If anyone is looking for a show recommendation, find something from the 1990's in Dallas, TX at either the Bomb Factory or Deep Ellum Live. I don't recall the venue, but they were astoundingly good that evening.

We (TG) record all our gigs. At first it was so we could listen back and identify what needed improved, now its just post-show audio masturbatory material.

Nice one! Never seen Fugazi on stage, but I might go for that Dallas recording Sultan recommends.

I was in high school. It was amazing. I've just purchased it, and hope it is as amazing as my memories make it.

FYI, it looks like demand has exceeded bandwidth: at the moment it's telling me 20+ hours for 200+ MB.

edit: it only took an hour. Good quality too.

edit 2: let's make it "great quality" instead. If you don't already have a preference for a show, this is a good one to get. Definitely worth the 5 bones they're asking. It captures them at their preachiest ;)

The music is good too.

You've just sold it to me, sir. :notworthy:
Glad to see The Waiting Room is on the setlist!

I do! Haven't had the time to listen to all of it yet, but what I heard was certainly worth the 5$. Good sound too. :notworthy:

One or two of the news articles that Fugazi referred to in their recent mailshot led me to this: http://www.chunklet.com/index.cfm?ID=574&section=blogs

A 45min compilation of on-stage banter, pretty much essential even if you have even a passing interest in the band. At times it does seem as though Ian takes himself a bit too seriously, and I was left thinking that maybe once in a while they could have given themselves a night off from lecturing the audience, but for the most part it shows just how sharp the band were.
