Gabriel v Collins

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. I've been out to watch The Musical Box yesterday, so I reckon that puts me down firmly as a Gabriel man! 8)

BTW - they were promoting a band at the entrance, who play post Gabriel Genesis with a very Gabriel-sound-a-like singer and John Hackett, the brother of, no less :lol: That's a bit too much, isn't it? :lol:

Music wise, none of them do much for me, but I like Peter Gabriel's label, Real World. For me, it's the place to go to for quality contemporary world music. For instance, you can't go to the store/internet/whatever and blindly buy any Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan CD, because there is so much BS out there and chances are 90% you'll end up with crap. But you can go and blindly buy any Khan CD by Real World.

So, my vote: Gabriel - deuze points ;D

When I saw the title of this thread I hoped there had been a bit of Chisora v Haye "come on then !" shenanigans during a chance airport encounter between the two former Genesis vocalists. Maybe Frank warren should sign them up - Buster v the Sledgehammer has quite a good ring to it. I reckon Gabriel's public school training would see him ahead on points early on but my money's on a Collins KO in the 7th.

Automatically, due to my fondness for Early Genesis and Gabriels solo work I say Gabriel. It was he that gave 1970-1975 Genesis their 'feel'.
I've always been disappointed by Collins trying to step into his shoes - see the live album from 77 'Seconds Out', which I cannot listen to now.

But, I must say, with the passing of years ( and Years!) since, I probably listen to Collins' solo work (pre 1980) , Genesis duke/mama etc period Genesis as much as I actually listen to Gabriel era Genesis and solo albums.

The benefit of decades since my manufactured hostility between them has caused me to mellow... although I still think as people Collins comes across as a prick.

Never been a fan of Genesis, anyway.

However, Collins' In The Air Tonight did give me cause for steady disgust already ... and it's surely one of the better things he's done... :urff: :urff: :urff: ...

Gabriel's Sledgehammer was clearly more to my taste. And, of course his videos, his cooperations with Kate Bush, and his general working ethics. Clearly pro-Gabriel here.

Gabriel's the Rael deal. Still play the old stuff of Foxtrot, Lamb lies down etc and still love the music .

Would like to see The Musical Box playing Lamb Lies Down On Broadway at the Apollo in Manchester, there using the origional sets from the 70s, not a problem getting to the gig, but it's on a Thursday and that's a work night for me.

Collin's did an ok job at the time taking over as front man, somebody had to, but he is 2nd Division and not in the same class as Gabriel.

As a person i agree with Mark Fiend about Collin's.

Even though Gabriel did sing a song about It's a Knockout without even asking the great Stuart Hall to do a Vincent Price in "Thriller" style rap sequence, and even though I know sweet Francis Adams about his music apart from Sledgehammer and Salsbury Hill, Gabriel wins. Because he never made my ears bleed with a fake Yankee accent while singing, nor subsequently rape them with Illegal Alien and Sussudio.
