Fields of the Nephilim's "Mourning Sun"

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I picked up a copy of this in the MVE bargain bin and only found out when I got home that the previous owner had taken apart the artwork. Bluetac marks over what is left of it, and the staples removed clumsily with all the pages inside the booklet removed - all I have left is the outer pages. Pity as I've always liked McCoys packaging of his releases. Does anyone have a copy that they can tell me what I'm missing out on (or better still send some scans :innocent:)

As I recall the main picture is Carl dressed as a maiden aunt at a funeral surrounded by a lot of inky butterflies in the rain. It looks better than it sounds!

I Have the limited edition Black jewel box, don't know if the other versions are different...

Very simple (but beautiful) booklet, consisting of three pages printed both sides and stappled in the middle, wich makes 12 pages.

Page 1 - Cover (MaCoy frozen face)
Page 2 - A very dark close up of an eye with some symbols on the upper left part.
Page 3 - Some cloth pattern and the tracklist
Page 4 - Lyrics not identified, done in two different fonts with different shades of grey making a pattern
Page 5 - Siberia title with a B/W photo of a frozen landscape with some butterflies in shadow. Entire picture seems printed in ice.
Page 6 - Lyrics not identified, done in two different fonts with different shades of grey making a pattern
Page 7 - Light title with a B/W photo of a girl playing with a lot of butterflies. Entire picture seems printed in ice
Page 8 - Lyrics not identified, done in two different fonts with different shades of grey making a pattern
Page 9 - Shine title with a colour photo of McCoy dressed like an old lady in a wake with butterflies all around him.
Page 10 - Cloth and Ice pattern with a frozen face and a butterfly inserted underneath.
Page 11 - Continuing the Pattern of Page 10 with all the credits of tha album in black font over white splash
Page 12 - Frozen landscape with an picture of an eclipse on the center and butterflies all around. Fields of the Nephilim inverted typing on the upper part, a frozen hand on the lower part sided by the logos of the band and Sheer Faith

Sorry, I'm unable to do scans, hope this help in any way.

On a Neph related note...

In the Viva Rock magazine there's a small interview with McCoy & also a review of some new product: the Ceremonies DVD/CD will be released at the end of March...
The Mag comes with a free cd and 1st track on there is Moonchild, taken from the Ceremonies cd. Sounds great!

Thanks and sorry for not responding sooner. Mine is also housed in a black jewel box (with cardboard outer sleeve for the albums outwork), so it would appear that I'm missing an awful lot of booklet that would be extremely good to also own. I guess thats the risk of paying a fiver for an album that goes for considerable more in the new & used section of Amazon.

Is there a standard version of it ... I don't recall ever seeing one, and can't help but think that Carl's records sell in sufficiently limited amounts these days to mean that even a bog standard pressing would be "limited edition" compared to what the Neph used to be able to shift. :innocent:

For some strange reason "Mourning Sun" didn't do as well in England as the pieced-together "Fallen" album did. I don't know wether the English fans just got bored of the wait, or McCoy's mystical prevaricating and boycotted it but it's strange. I actually preferred "Fallen", it had far better production values, MS sounds as if McCoy's singing in a different room to the rest of the band.
He's still pretty big in Germany I understand and "Xiberia" got a fair amount of club play there, so I suspect he still has a fair few pennies to rub together

As for "Ceromonies"..depends on the tracklist. I'd be tempted if it has "Psychonaut" and "Dead to the World", which I'd love to hear properly. Otherwise.. :|
