The Sisters Of Mercy + Crap Footage

Hi All,

I can watch, The Jesus and Mary Chain storm it on Jools Hollond, UltraSound, Tori Amos, Suede and many others.

I can watch Pulp, Nick Cave and Cypress Hill in HD, The Cure, Aztec Camera, Prefab Sprout and even Midnight Oil, where the f**k are the Sisters?

I know I can watch them, I can see the latest crappy footage from the latest iphone etc, but seriously, where are the iconic performances? where is the ultimate live video?

Why has the band I love sold itself so short for such a long time. f**k it, I probably wont care when I'm sober.

Yours (watching someone else do it so much better, on you tube)

Paul.

Cos Von's a cantankerous bugger, that's why.

The sad thing is if Eldritch died tomorrow, he'd have nothing to show for his life for the past two decades.

In fairness, he probably wouldn't agree because his priorities for his life are different to what his fans want from him. But yes, as a professional musician, he's got very little to show for the past twenty years except the handful of gigs where they got the sound right.

And zaltys7's original question is entirely reasonable: how hard would it be to put out a live DVD and even make some extra cash from it? Although perhaps what I said in the first paragraph goes some way towards answering.

Or, better yet, you can watch it in perfect quality within the limits of your hearing and sight... at the gigs.

Well, even at the gigs it may not always be within the limits of your hearing and sight. Which is probably why there's no DVD.

There are DVDs. You can even pay for some on Ebay... if you please.

There's loads of material that only have to be selected, reworked and put on a DVD. A showcase of all Sisters periods, that would be great.

If nothing else, :von: could just release Shots on DVD, with FLA and Body & Soul video's added.

What happened to the early 2000's official live DVD project, anyway?

The same thing that happened to the series of single releases leading up to a new album.

Although everybody knows that exactly the existence of audio and video bootlegs were for
a long time ONE reason for The Sisters to refrain from the idea of any official "live" releases ...

What really surprised me was the lack of DVD release of Wake (I know Phonogram hold the rights to that not Warners, but even so...) and all the promos to coincide with the remastered albums. But then, that would've required having some one at Warners who could manage to do their job properly (presumably they were trying to remember how to tie their shoe laces. Again).

No, that was the point of the original question and most of the posts on this thread have been discussing official releases. We all know there are bootlegs out there - most of us have got them - but the question was why the band has never released a live DVD.

I think you've just answered the question.

I doubt re-releasing "Wake" would be worthwhile for him. The money would have to be split amongst the FALAA line-up, and they'd likewise have to agree to it's release too.
As for a new DVD..how do I put this delicately, the band are not famed for their live performances these days. I don't think I'd be saying anything controversial if I said they never were, particularly. So we're unlikely to be missing a lot.

Anyway, a company called Stellarproducts have long seen to that ...

And to a few other Live DVDs ... you find them regularly on Ebay ... and, ah yes ... on their own website ...

I think people are after something more akin to McCoys dvd efforts, professional cameramen, production values, editors, sound etc. Not something put together off Youtube with a casing reminiscent of an 80's porno! I wouldnt mind the Prince Charming Review they have on that site though.

Maybe  but I think DeWinter has given the real answer:

Trying to avoid begging the question on the quality of the recent shows because it never goes anywhere (many of us here and the press often seem to agree that they're just fab, for whatever that's worth ) but wasn't the live show famed for being pretty amazing in the nineties?
