Best Sisters Guitarist Of All Time

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Yep, me too.

Hard to rate guitarists who have never recorded a single song with the band.

How are we defining "best"?

Virtuoso musicianship? Contribution to the Sisters' sound? Amp that goes up to 11? Largest number of strings on their guitar?

I'm voting for Gary Marx, because everything I love from 1981 to 1985 - from the frantic Teachers/Adrenochrome demo to FaLaA - has got his mark on it. Rhythm guitar may not be perceived as being as sexy as lead guitar, but it shapes the overall sound so much.

That said, I'm very much liking the sound that Messrs Christo and Catalyst create together. Give me that on a studio recording and I might change my mind.

I subscribe to every single of your letters.
Gary defined The Sisters' sound in original.
Wayne jumped in later (which he did quite well, but ....).
Another option were clearly Adam, because he's written Top Nite Out, for example, and because he was what he was - a reliable relieve to The Sisters!
Especially Chris but also Ben are the best thing to happen to The Sisters more recently ... a studio recording ... oh hell, yeah ...

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Hussey, being a best guitarist than Adam, Marx or Catalyst? WUT

Maybe a better composer than the other, who knows, but not the best sisters guitarist.

As soon as we're talking about the best guitarist,Pearson wins it all.His style fits me the most,he might not be the greatest virtuoso amongst them but his sound and performance are unmatched. He has this dessolated deserted and post-apocalyptic guitar sound.I went too far :) but it is true

Thanks gents. I was starting to feel lonely as the only supporter of Mr. Whammy.

I think I have to go with "This is from our next album on Cleopatra called Butt Fuck Parlour Time. I DON'T THINK SO! You probably do. Well, you couldn't be more wrong."

It hits all the right notes: disdain for goths, the (no) new record blues, vaguely abusive, both humorous and obscure, etc...

Currently in a minority of one, I voted for Ben Gunn  - he fleshed the sound out, brought some much needed new ideas and left his mark on all the classics from Alice to ToL - the classic Sisters sound.
Kudos too to Chris who has breathed fresh life into the band this millennium.
