Just started reading a new book about The Smiths - 'A Light That Never Goes Out' and had to do the obligatory check in the index for any mention of and the gals. It states that the Smiths were good friends with the Sisters. As far as I recall (but could be wrong) wasn't that complimentary about Moz. I can see the bands getting along but the Singers? Maybe. Maybe not.

never heard anything either way apart from the sisters website's reference to "brickie with a quiff" on the dear doktor page, or whatever it is...

I always assumed they was like 'we both know each other, but our songs are completely different and i'm not really in the same mood as this guy.'

They played a few gigs together with them and Flesh for Lulu in 1983 ...

At least for these two, it's so noted in the Wiki ... but possibly, there were more such occasions during that tour.

I remember Eldritch quoted Morrissey in a recent - i.e. less than a couple years old - interview.
I was surprised by this fact at the time - not being aware of any connection - but thought it was nice to see one of my favourite lyricists quoting another one.
Incidentally, I finally got to see the two of them live for the very first time in 2011 (separately of course), in spite of the fact that I had admired the two of them for 27 years before that.

"William it was Really Nothing" is not about Billy Mackenzie as is commonly accepted but actually a coded reference to his Andrew via his middle name whilst 'Cemetery Gates" is an oblique reference to the poetry jousting they used to undertake throughout the multiple necropoleis of the M62 corridor.

By early 1984, The Smiths had had two hit singles & a hit album & The Sisters were preparing a headline tour of the university circuit? Can't imagine they were playing master & servent either way around as late as 1984?

I can't imagine they played together in 1984, but i'm happy to be proved wrong.

In March '84 the Smiths played a UK tour at the size of venues that the Sisters would play 2 months later in May '84.

The Sisters did play a single UK date in Birmingham in April prior to going on a short US tour but on the Smiths gigography they aren't listed as playing a gig on that date.

The Sisters and the Smiths did play Birmingham and also London i think. The Smiths were on first in Birmingham (I think) though maybe joint billing rather than supporting is probably the case.

Using the power of Google i've found that they played together at Brixton Ace on 29th June 1983. The Smiths supported the Sisters with Flesh For Lulu third on the bill.

1983 would make more sense than 1984 as the Smiths were only just starting out. If you believe the Smiths fansites it was only their 11th gig.

Can't find anything about playing together in Birmingham though.

I wonder if Andrew and Wayne ever had a "fling". It would explain a lot; Andrew's attitude towards Wayne has often seemed like "yeah he's just another notch on the bed-post" whereas Wayne comes across as the aggrieved "but I loved you!" bitter party.

Or maybe it's just me

Actually I thought that too! Especially the whole "Ha ha look, I'm shagging Ian Astbury" antics Hussey was doing after the split. I admit these days La Huss just seems to enjoy needling Eldritch for the giggles.

Was this not raised (and discussed at some length) in an infamous (and now sadly locked) topic about the two gentlemen in question about a year ago ??

There was certainly a thread that got into speculating about at least one of the gentlemen's orientation - until the Boss rightly called time.

It's probably because at the dates of the gigs my mum would have been the same age that I am now. Oh well, hopefully Morrissey will take TSoM on a coheadline tour or something. I'm personally hoping Depeche Mode/TSoM tour together again.

Today in newspaper I read about a Smiths reunion next year. Glastonbury & 4 other dates or so... Did I go into hypersleep and is it april fools day already?
