Silvio Dante & Von - Voice of America vs. Vision Thing

Prompted by watching Lillyhammer, which if you've not watched, you should, I dug out Steve van Zandt's second solo LP Voice of America last night.
Prior to becoming Silvio (Soprano's) Dante, Steve was/is again Bruce Springsteen's guitarist and made a few solo LP's in the 80's.
I'd not played this LP for over 20 years (released circa 83 I think) and what struck me was how much it had in common with Vision Thing.
Not all of it has dated well, it has that early/mid 80's electric production, and is a product of it's time, and that time saw Steven writing about America's (Reagan era) foreign policy at the time.
The lyrics are more obvious than anything Von would ever pen and some of the songs are odd (funk and cod reggae), but when you hear the bass/synth/riffing of VOA and Undefeated they plough the same furrow as it were.
I doubt it will be to many peoples taste, but you never know.
