Really? I've never actually heard the track but from the name I always assumed he was some old school American bluesman or something. Never occurred to me it might be Gary Marx - especially when resentment at being overshadowed by Wayne was one of his reported reasons for leaving the Sisters.
Good find Quiffy.

Surely this can't be true ??
Guthrie Handley was the singer of a band called Naked Voice who became Eyes of the Nightmare Jungle.
I remember picking up a copy of the dismal "Where Was ?" shortly after its release. Someone had believed that the Hussey connection would make it a big seller and there were huge numbers in the bargain bins within weeks of it coming out.

Just did a bit of googling to check up on the "facts" (ie half-remembered reminiscences) in my previous post and found Guthrie's current project's MySpace page which has a brief biog which fills in some of the gaps :

I'm not sure if I dare test the link on the university computer, but the single is apparently up for download here:
http://www.goear.com/listen.php?v=e3e7b3f and on some other sites if the link doesn't work.
Great find.

I have that 7". Not bad, but not essential either.
When I added it to my collection on discogs a while ago I saw that Marx alias.
Quite the surprise, but I've never been really convinced it's actually him.
If he really was the singer of Naked Voice then there is at least that connection with mr Pearman...

It is almost certainly a mistake. Is Gary Marx the same person as Guthrie Handley ? Clearly not. Is the person on Where Was ? Gary Marx and not Guthrie Handley ? Clearly not.
The only mystery is where this canard originated - Probably the same reliable source as the other ridiculous falsehoods that have done the rounds over the years on the Internet.

Is it the same Naked Voice mentioned here?

Of course. Marx's pre Sisters band was the plural - Naked Voice
s. This has been discussed on here before :

So an honest mistake (and understandable confusion) rather than a malicious falsehood ...

Clearly recorded from someone's scratched vinyl copy!

Wasn't it out at the same time as Severina? I wouldn't have thought the Mish had made a big enough impact at that point for anyone to think that Wayne's name would vastly increase sales but you never know. Anyway, thanks for clearing things up.
