A little snow...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Incidentally, 2' measured on the driveway; nearly 3' on the deck (not from drifting). Holy hell.

I have the vaguest memories of '78 (long enough ago that I think it was '78 ). I remember having to dig out a bit from our front door, and walking around outside, only to discover to my amazement that I was actually walking atop a neighbor's fence!

The most successful tyranny is not the one that uses force to assure uniformity but the one that removes the awareness of other possibilities, that makes it seem inconceivable that other ways are viable, that removes the sense that there is an outside.

Driveway:

Front porch (couldn't get the door open); stairs are completely buried:

Back deck (couldn't get that door open, either) - note buried chaise:

Deck, again - the "hat" of snow on the picnic table was nearly 3' deep; the adjacent bumps are the top edges of the buried deck chairs:

I never really listened much in Geography at school, but I vaguely remember the teacher saying that most of the time the UK gets the US weather about a week later, assuming the usual westerly wind from the Atlantic. Hopefully not on this occasion. Glad to hear the worst is over for our American cousins.

I'd have been able to *walk* out (eventually ;D), but Dad had to spend hours out there with the snowblower yesterday and today in order to clear car paths out the drive. Neither one of us would've been able to shovel that much snow from the driveway, end of. Most of the neighbors here hire folks with plows - landscapers/maintenance guys/etc. - to clear *their* driveways when the weather's bad.

One of the town plows made a couple of messy passes up & down this street, but it's down to a single lane's width, and most of the neighbors' mailboxes are still buried about 8'-10' back from the road. They won't be getting mail for days, at the least.

I barely got in/out of my street, because the plow that did the main cross street left almost 2' of snow piled at the end, in the intersection. My sad little car took 3 tries to get back in (had to put the car in "winter" mode)! Everyone else in these parts (they're all richies) has a giant SUV, so it's not an issue for them...

The town's main drag was pretty clear when I ventured out a bit ago, but the side streets are still pretty treacherous, and the shops' parking lots are utter disasters, sporting 15' snow piles that can't been seen around and drivers who don't give a rat's arse! GRRRRRR. :urff:

Impressing photos ... ... we had extraordinary much snow last year, but not THAT much ... and for sure not with electricity cut-offs as some suffer in America.

Hope your heating is working well, at least .... ...
