Yeh, saw that earlier.

$60 for a £20k original!

I think I like the way he thinks.

Looked some the works he made, didn't know who he was, and his art is very interesting...

I think his art is as popular as it is, because it is clever.

BTW the recent photo of him taken when his van broke down, I would say that is him.

I suspect that there is more than one "Banksy" and that it's the name of a collective/collaborative project.

the horses-in-night-vision-goggles installation is tagged "shela" on the car so i suspect mark is right.

Marks theory fits "Banksy concept" in many ways

I suppose he has quite a collection of 'assistants' these days (sure he can afford a few staff), since he's moved on from just spraying stencil art around a few walls to installations in trucks; but back in the day it was just him; Mr Banks.

It used to be a genuine desire to avoid prosecution, but obviously the whole anonymous thing has worked massively to his advantage in building brand Banksy as a mysterious thing.

There are a few similarities with Von's career plan here and there.

i'm wondering since when almost everything seems to like Von, similar to him? R.E.M., now Banksy. how about Gandhi or Mr Muscle?

Mark idea is fine, even plausible. the recent, truck action, makes me wonder how many middle men, trusted middle men he/she (they), need to have to avoid connection that could lead to him/her (them), to loose tail.
i'm just wondering how many times he/she (them) showed his face, but none knew that was HIM.

I only mentioned it since this is a TSOM forum. Both men have managed their 'brand' very well considering, is all.

I would imagine Brand Banksy has a few employees. I would imagine the creative force is still Mr Banks himself. He is not a remarkable looking individual - and quite plausible that, for example, the person taking the videos of the people buying the canvas paintings at the Central park stall would've been the artist, but then again, probably not... He would definitely be in the vicinity... watching the game.

Did you know that Mr B has dabbled in music as well (as an expansion of artistic boundaries natch)? I've spotted something of interest in upcoming gigs listed on the Time Out NYC pages. lol.

Maybe since he's now compared to Von, we could email and ask for a rendition of 'Far Parade'?

yeah, i read about that. funny. but in the same time guy got some point. if he did this on someone' property then owners can be pissed. and let not forget that mayor of NYC is a wealth man and from NYC, so natuarally he likes possions, things and all that.

street art is fine, selling street art is something else completely.

Well, technically speaking, it's vandalism.

What does that banana mean? I saw it all over the place last time we were in Berlin.

You can find them all over Germany, but also in Vienna, Basel, Zurich, London, Paris, Moscow, Palma and New York.

They are all done by "spray-painter" Thomas Baumgärtel "in order to mark out interesting art locations" ...

Check his biography here...

I assumed that it was a Velvet Underground reference but looking at the example @Being posted it seems a little under-ripe !
