Spyware/Popup killing

Not wanting to continue the "is he gay" thread, but someone was asking about popup blockers and I mentioned that I'd caught some nasty spyware that was popping up ads all over the place.

Since then I've found this wonderful free bit of software that sorts out all your spyware problems:

http://spybot.eon.net.au/index.php?lang ... getstarted

Its absolutely brilliant!

The same guy does a popup blocker (for those of you who are annoyed by non-pervasive popups) at http://www.shareware4web.com/

Personally I don't use blockers cos you lose some relevant pages as well, but it's there for those that are interested.

"adware" from http://www.lavasoft.de is also quite good for killing spyware :)

This one is my personal fave. It's just a plain text file that you drop into your C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc folder (the location varies depending on which version of Windows you use) and kills banner ads stone dead. No need to download or install any software, it's fully customisable and extensible, you can also use it to kill off access to any other evil site, not necessarily just ads. It requires a bit of techie knowledge, but isn't really that difficult, and best of all, leaves you in total control.

Doesn't do pop-ups though. :urff:

Get Spyware Blaster from : http://www.wilders.org/HTMLobj-1605/spy ... rsetup.exe

This writes to your registry entries that will stop any spyware from from installing on your system as well as blocking cookies and stuff like that.

Run Adaware first though to remove anything that is already there though. Bear in mind that Kazaa has spyware built in (as do some other p2p programs) and if you remove the files it uses the whole program stops working. Use something like Kazaalite that has had the spyware bit of the program removed.

hmm.id been told to go over to the lite side coz it has no spyware apparently.but since im scared of technology anyway, and it seemed that apart from spyware it had no serious benefits i never bothered.
i always thought the user ratings were a litle silly.who on earth would spend time uploading the latest big thing in order to boost their ratings???
you either have in demand stuff or you dont.
hardly something to wet yourself over
